U.N. says North Korea steals cryptocurrency to fund weapons program

Is anyone surprised? Really? Though I do wish I'd have gotten in on the ground floor of cryptocurrency, I have to admit.
I looked into it. Seems more of a pyramid scheme or some kind of scam to me. Cryptocurrency always had a shady vibe with it.

It's part of the reason why the cost of computers went through the roof where people filled entire rooms with dozens of computers laying on the floor and/or lined up on all the walls with electrical wires everywhere in attempts to mine cryptocurrency.

It's because of them the cost of processors went through the roof, and made it hard if not impossible for people to find good ones for their personal PC's. They hogged up all the supply.

It's some ways it comes across like a technology era Gold Rush.

I happened on a retail website a few months ago. One of the options for payment was cryptocurrency. They sold tee shirts. What's cryptocurrency up to now?

I don't know. I still don't understand cryptocurrency as I'm not a very tech-savvy person. Like the gold rush , I think it's kind of dying out now although some people are still doing it.

It just comes across as being associated with the dark/deep web and criminal enterprise. I'm not saying that's exactly true , but that's just the vibe I get from it all.

Kimmy sort of confirms it for me. Lol.

I know what you mean. Cryptocurrency is big on the dark web.
There was a investigative report I watched a few months ago. They were talking about this supposed hit man that advertises there and accepts cryptocurrency as payment. He's a genius, huh?
Anyway, this guy who wanted to have his wife hit contacted the hit man. They negotiated a price and then the guy got his cryptocurrency through some broker or whatever and in the process had to show, ready? Identification!
He's in prison now for soliciting a murder.

Yeah once I saw that you needed to go through brokers, I kind of pictured big Tony in the back room doing business for the boys.

It depends on which one you chose to invest in.

Wish I had gotten in on Bitcoin back in the day. I had my chance and passed on it. Could have turned $200 investment into about $1,000,000. Little too late now though to make any big money on it. Small gains is all you can look forward to unless you plan on initially investing a ton of money to start.

Yikes. It's best not to look back. Especially when there are that many potential zero's to look at. :p

I wish I was being hyperbolic or exaggerating but I'm not. $197 of bitcoins when it first started is worth $980,000 now.

It ruined the mid-range GPU market for awhile as well. Couldn't find a gtx 1060, gtx 1070, rx 570 or a rx 580 at MSRP anywhere for quite some time.

Oh, I knew you were serious. That's why I gave you that advice. I'd take it myself because thinking about losing that kind of money for a small investment I thought may not be worth it would bug me too.
