Look at how chopped up Europe, Africa, and the Middle East is. I'd happily let Texas schlep off.
I think desegregation is important, but I think in other ways that the union government is too extensive. We're eventually going to need more power in each state, more chaos, more political strife, less empire.

Oh, you mean determinate State's Rights? Oregon is a sort of Maveric State but I think they'd go along with Washington and California perhaps? Idaho and Utah would stay together. Wyoming and Montana? ????

I wouldn't split up the union just get rid of federal income tax and have tax go through the states to the federal level. The states would handle the taxing.

omg

you are sooooo naïve

and my state is broke
Without naivete nothing would ever get done. Anyways your state shouldn't be broke. It can raise property taxes, corporate taxes, income taxes, luxury taxes, fees, fines etc. It can outsource, make promises, sell bonds, request donations, put tolls on things, seize properties for the public good. All it has to do is figure out what people were paying the IRS and tax them itself, instead; then pass that on to the federal government. Instantly the state government becomes relevant again.

This would never work. The Feds would use Federal troops on us to get their money.
If the states simply stopped cooperating, yes; but if they got together and changed the constitution no. They can do that. It requires a high percentage of states voting, but they can amend the constitution without any of the 3 branches of the federal government telling them otherwise. I think its called a convention of states. The danger, of course, is that such a convention might do something stupid; but simply shifting the tax collection to state control would not be crazy.

True dat, that's why I think Mexico should just join the U.S. divide it up into a couple of new states. It's a win/win for everybody.
I had a thread around here somewhere
all about a take over

we should just go down there and give it to them
