Eternal damnation how bad can it be

Yes, the rich man /Lazarus 'story' ( an illustration and Not a real happening ) is in Luke.
Whereas, John chapter 11 is about a real actual happening.
Without a parable ( story / illustration ) Jesus would Not address the crowds as per Matthew 13:34.
Remember: just being ' rich ' (wealthy) is Not a sin - see James 2:2
However, those ' rich men ' (Pharisees) were greedy/covetous money-loving people - Luke 16:14,19
Jesus was addressing those unfaithful 'rich men' Pharisees (Luke 16:16)
Jesus' faithful death ended that old Mosaic Law Constitution but the Pharisees wanted it to continue- Romans 10:4
Agree, it is not real story, it looks like typical Gnostic type story but it reflect s something that people associated with, the way they understood Hades works. Somewhat interesting that Swedenborg’s description is somewhat in line with this story.

I find the reason 'people associated with' is because false clergy teach a religious-myth hell as being Scripture.
Perhaps, that started long ago so that clergy could use ' fire ' as a scare tactic to try to control the flock of God.

Jesus simply teaches us how hades or biblical hell works when he likened death to sleep at John 11:11-14.
So, while dead Jesus was in hades/biblical hell, then Jesus was sleeping - Acts of the Apostles 2:27.
Plus, who gets a ' get out of hell ' free card___________
Religious-myth hell teachings teach never, No ' get-out-of-hell free card ' ever.
Whereas, the temporary Bible's hell comes to a final end because everyone in biblical hell is ' delivered up '.
This means resurrected out of biblical hell before biblical hell is cast vacant into ' second death ' for vacated hell.
- Revelation 20:13-14.

Description of Hades are kind of classic thing. There is no "forever" word in Hebrew or Greek, "olam" or "aeonial" does not mean "forever" but undetermined period of time with beginning and end.

I told him the suffering Hell cannot be repetitive because you would get use to it. I said the suffering in Hell had to be like an irrational number, that is, never ending and never repeating otherwise you would get used to it. With a glean in his eye and the smile on his face like an angry wolf about to devour fresh meat he said, "Yeah, that's it." He was actually very please with the idea I would suffer for all eternity in the worse possible way imaginable. At the time, I genuinely felt sorry for him for having so much hate in his heart.

.

To (very roughly) paraphrase Nietzsche, Christians are weak losers who want revenge on their mental and physical superiors and so take consolation in imagining them suffer forever. While I would not say this is true of all Christians, the guy you allude to certainly fits the description.

Perhaps you can check with a local Rabbi because a Jewish professor told me that when your read ' forever and ever ' such as found at Psalms 111:8; Psalms 48:14 Psalms 10:16 that means the additional ' ever ' underscores being permanent as we use the word forever today.
So, to me Psalms 104:5 'forever' is connected to Psalms 104:30 that Earth will always be renewed.
This is what I find we are to teach - Psalms 96:10; Psalms 93:1.
Any comments about Psalms 41:13 ___________

I find there are fake ' weed/tares' Christians, and genuine ' wheat 'Christians.
Jesus as Christ was No weak loser who wanted revenge, etc. and Jesus is the genuine 'wheat' Christians role model.

If what is attributed to him about forgiving those who crucified him is true, then you're right, he certainly isn't vengeful.

This is specific arrangement. I looked at and not completely satisfied that it means the same as forever in English.
Strong's Hebrew: 5769. עוֹלָם (olam) -- long duration, antiquity, futurity

"Many long periods"?
