Atheists: Would you like to believe in God if there was good evidence for God?

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
So I guess you are saying that you would believe in God even if He did not measure up to your expectations?
Of course. That would require an actual God. It wouldn't be belief though. Belief is thinking and convincing yourself of something that's true that you're not entirely sure of.

I mean I don't have to believe in the sun because it's right there on a nice sunny day.

If God doesn't meet up to the standards the sun brings, then there's simply no point in even considering that one exists.

Something that would belittle their stand? Why would someone believing being his own god, mighty creator except such even if approaching in front?

Let's say that hypothetically speaking it is the one true God of ALL the religions, the one who revealed the Dharmic Faiths as well as the Abrahamic religions. What if there was evidence that proved to you that God exists. Would you accept or reject that God?

Feh. Why would I even bother to consider such a question?

It is as pointless as they come, you know. It does not help that you are attempting to drive Dharmic into a terrain that ill suits it.

If God exists and is All-Knowing and All-Wise, that is enough of a reason to believe in God, Imo.
If you say so.

There are many conceptions of God because there are many religions, but that does not mean there is more than one God. So what it boils down to is that you have to choose from more than one religion.

And you know God said those things because ______________________________________________ .
And you know God did those things because _______________________________________________ .

Nope. Gentleman's rules prevail here on RF. You have to answer my questions first.

Whether God is as clear as the sun would depend upon your perspective.
I think He is but others do not share my views.
I do not have belief because I am entirely sure.
Yet I cannot prove God exists to anyone else.

I am not driving anything anywhere. I said "hypothetically speaking, if such a God was proven to you to exist......"

It's certainly not going to harm anything to have a personal conviction of God. I used to have that too.

However since then I've raised my standards of believability on par with things that we collectively acknowledge forthright. Like that of the Sun or the rain for instance that requires no convincing or believing.

Name one. Show where he/she said "they would like to believe in God if they only had the evidence." That isn't what atheists say. That's what theists would like to believe atheists say.

Trailblazer said: Holy moly! ~~~ This is practically all atheists say, at least to me. Sorry, I cannot quote atheists from other forums because that is not right. They posted to me on other forums in confidence. Sure, they are public forums, but it is bad practice to take posts from one forum to another forum. But it is not only on the “other forums” where atheists have said this. They have also said it on RF. I am not saying that ALL atheists would like to believe in God if they had the evidence, since some atheists probably have no interest in God. But if they don’t have any interest in God, why is this forum comprised of as many atheists as believers? Hmmmmm.....

This would be a great topic for a new thread:

“Atheists: Would you like to believe in God if there was good evidence for God?”

Please answer 1, 2 or 3.

1) Yes, I would like to believe in God if there was evidence that was good enough.
2) I am not sure. I might like to believe in God if there was evidence that was good enough.
3) No, I would not like to believe in God even if there was evidence that was good enough.

* By good enough I mean evidence that was sufficient for you to believe that God exists, evidence that proved to you that God exists.

1. I think most atheists would believe and most used to believe.

That's perfectly fine. We are all different.

We have been over this before. God did not say those things. Men wrote them and attributed them to God.

Yes, we have been over this before. Welcome to theistic religion. :)

As for your question in OP, yes broadly speaking I'd like to know. Unless God's existence is irrelevant and doesn't affect our reality in any way. In that case I don't care.

Finally, someone gives me a straight answer to my question. :)

If God exists, I cannot imagine how it would be possible for God's existence to be irrelevant and not affect our reality in any way, even if it was a deistic God that does not communicate to humans.

I wouldn't say I'd like to believe in God, since that suggests I have the desire for God to be real.

It would be more accurate to say that I would believe in God if there was sufficient evidence. I want to believe the truth, whatever it may be. And if there is evidence that shows that God is true, then I will believe that.

So that means you would have to believe in the God if the evidence was valid, even if the God did things you do not approve of or did not do things you think He should do?

There would be a difference between believing that a god exists, and then having to believe/trust in it. If it were a wanker of a god, everyone would believe it exists yet doesn’t mean that anyone has to believe/trust in it.

I may be gay, but I try hard to give straight answers. ;)

Cool. So where's the thread we talked about showing your God exists, via a demonstration that Baha'u'llah is a "Manifestation" of your God?

God did not say those things. Men wrote them and attributed them to God.

Trouble is that we can say that about anything in the Bible, including the bits where it says God exists. Maybe men just wrote it and claimed that God exists.

That is a very rational answer.
I believe in God because the evidence indicates to me that God exists, and it makes sense to believe in what is true.
But I would not always say that I like the fact that God exists.
In some ways it makes life better but it is not always easy.
