Degradation of Porn

InChrist

Free4ever
Making one final comment on this issue. It is my belief that women compete with one another because of the Anthropological need to procreate. We want a good mate. Most women know what it feels like to be put in uncomfortable situations and the way that pornography is portrayed, it is extremely uncomfortable for the woman. Most often when women participate in those situations it is part of an effort to survive, not for pleasure.

Anyone who would assert that women enjoy Porn is most definitely NOT "In Christ"!!!
Are you indicating I've said anywhere that women enjoy porn?
My entire position is that porn is degrading and damaging to women.

I don't know what you are talking about with regard to 1000's of rules. The scriptures give no mandate for a "Christian controlled country". Anyway, just because "Christians" on some forum would support the death penalty for LGBTQ doesn't prove anything about the Bible or the will of God.
Then you have not taken notice of all the rules and laws in the NT. Over 1000 of them, actually. And they outline (plus the OT cherry-picked laws) how a Christian Theocracy would run.

Do you refute what Paul wrote and consider it a disgrace to him, or not?

He even instructed slaves of hard masters to obey them!

Again:-
Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. (1 Peter 2:18)

You do realise that many of these slaves really were sex slaves?

Let us all see you admit Paul's shame here....... or not.
Before you condemn Paul, it is worth noting that he was in chains himself. Obviously, Paul knew better than to attempt changing the existing order of society immediately with a political revolution. As I stated the gospel Paul preached was about changing hearts and minds which ultimately changes society and brings freedom.

That is truly an ignorant thing to say since you do not know me personally at all or anything about my sex life. Many who share opinions do so because they care about the abuse and the damage the porn industry causes to real human beings. Many of those same people who oppose the degrading world of porn likely have perfectly fine sex lives, enjoying sex with real people they care about, rather than getting turned on by watching performers put on a fake sex scene....which is really perverse and dehumanizing.
.

More hearsay and conjecture.

FWIW: Your opinion has been veritably pummeled in this thread.

You have no idea of Paul's condition when he wrote to those different folks and churches.

And here we have it. You support the condition of slavery for all to see, and in those days many slaves were sex slaves! You will not admit that Paul's verses as showen were a total disgrace to human rights.

And you clearly don't understand that in a Christian controlled land that all people would be subject to God's Laws, God's punishments, God's systems, dress codes,...... everything!

In fact the Christian Theocracy (with a very few differences) would be a mirror to Islamic Sharia Law.

Now, please put away your supposed indictment of slavery......... of any kind.

As for pornography, I expect that a majority of porn workers benefit from it............

Rules such as?

Oh my goodness! Not just rules! Laws!

You must follow and fear God, and obey his commandments! The lawless shall be afraid!

Murderers, witches, gays and many others shall not be allowed to live.

Thieves, evildoers and wicked people shall be put away!

When in public, cut your hair or cover it.......................

Look, how many do you expect? They are all in the bible!
Why don't you know the 1000+ rules and laws?

And don't moan about any kind of slavery if you can't refute the wickedness that Paul wrote!

This post really shows your confusion and illiteracy when it comes to Bible comprehension of God's different dealings with the nation of Israel, the church, the law and grace.

Paul's writing were not wicked. He reminded slave owners that they were not above those they had as salves and that all were equal in God's sight. He reminded believers that they were all once slaves to sin but set free by Christ. He definitely planted the seeds of change in attitude toward slavery because the gospel and slavery are incompatible.

Well there is porn that doesn’t actually portray women as weak or objects, believe it or not. Not all porn is sexist or racist or whatever ist you can think of. Because like all supply and demand, there are people who make the porn they want to see. Sometimes that means what my health teacher dubbed “vegan porn.” Lol

I believe you that there is. But nevertheless if a person wants to watch porn they are going for some kind of sexual satisfaction which is artificially deprived of emotional content and realism. There is no actual other human you have to deal with in satisfying it, one can be purely a consumer. I think that ain't so useful.

We can’t ban sport because of the symptoms that flow onto the rest of society that it largely elicits. Alcohol induced violence, unhealthy drinking culture and enabling gambling addiction.
We can’t ban McDonald’s because of obesity. We can’t ban sugar because it’s addictive and can cause diabetes.
We can’t ban I dunno, Rock n Roll due to crazy concerts that have literally killed people.
Because people will revolt.

People have outlets, some people take things too far. But pushing a vice underground serves no beneficial purpose and I’d argue is far more detrimental. Because if it’s underground, how do you change it for the better? Say we make porn illegal, for argument’s sake. It will still exist, just illegally. Because the demand will always be there. So if we manage to make it illegal how then do you ensure that sex workers are protected under fair work laws? How do you eliminate the criminal element in something (sex trafficking) when you literally make the enterprise ostensibly surrounding it criminal? And how do you help addicts too afraid to ask for help because they don’t want to be seen as a criminal?

I can't really say I am in favour of banning porn, to be honest. I agree with you totally that that wouldn't solve anything. What I reckon would be nice would be more people recognising the harmfulness of pornography and refraining from engaging with it.

Your concern is that porn gives unrealistic expectations. Fine, a fair assessment. Instead of wagging our fingers at the industry, campaign for change within it. Incentivise the industry to protect workers, to ensure everyone is a consenting adult under their own volition, that everyone is screened for STDs constantly and portrayals are more healthy. (Of course there are very dark sexual fantasies. So pretending they don’t exist wont work either. But a balance is not a bad idea.)

Well, that's part of the concern I suppose. But as I said in my first point in this post, it's also about approaching sex as a consumer, rather than as a relating being. It's bringing in this mentality of product and user, when there are in genuine (and at least vaguely healthy!) sexual encounters two souls having some kind of interaction.

And your opinion is not automatically accurate.

That's the nature of opinions; yes, so you've been spot on regarding one thing in this thread. Defining and understanding what an opinion is.

The "evidence" you provided in this thread is about as verified as anyone's opinion however. You broke your promise to provide something more consolidated because you couldn't find anything.

Studies have shown the additive nature of pornography. It is especially degrading to women, but I would say it degrades men, too.

What Happened When We Went to a Porn Convention - Exodus Cry
There's feminist porn made by women and with their desires centered. There's also gay porn and obviously that doesn't have anything to do with women (aside from the fact that many straight women enjoy gay male porn). Anyway, I'm not interested in what fundie Christians say about porn as they're known to lie and skew data to suit their agenda, same with abortion.

Think what you like, but I think the reality if obvious.

I used to be in a very sheltered, even cloistered culture until I got in trouble and they trashed me. I pray that you never have anything happen to you that will make you understand what women often go through. Most/all women involved in the porn industry are forced into it by economic circumstances and emotional pressure. Often these women run away to escape abuse and then many are addicted to drugs or made fearful of abuse to make them participate.

The nature instilled in women by Genesis 3:16 is often used against women. If you are a woman, you should know this. Women's magazine often instill ideas in women about what sort of things are required of them.
