Should one ask for world peace in prayer?

Another thread reminded me of a question I've always had regarding prayer and asking for things from God.

Is there something strange about asking for "world peace" ? Isn't it kind of like telling God what to do? Is it criticism? Or just plain dumb? It's never going to happen!

The world is in peace. Jesus is the Messias that brought peace on earth. Those politicians gathering on The top meetings fulfill Joans Dreams. The paper they sign says they never fight again.

As no god is likely to exist, prayers have no meaning apart from the person who is praying in the hopes thereof!

While I have no problem with telling God what to do, if one is just going to pray at the exclusion of any other action, then I see it as unproductive as Facebook 'likes.'

Everyone wants world peace but few will actually do anything to affect it.

You can only change yourself. So a better prayer might be to rid yourself of any violent thoughts. Peace begins in the minds and hearts of individuals.

Any time you ask for something in prayer, you're telling God what to do. Might as well ask for something with impact.

I always pray for peace and harmony in the world, especially in conflict countries.

There's a way of praying for peace which is not telling God what to do. It can be expressing the longing for peace from the depths of the heart:

Even unawakened men and women are becoming aware of it now. From their darkness they are reaching out for light; in their sorrow they are longing for comfort; from the midst of the strife into which they have found themselves plunged, they are praying for peace and deliverance.

For the moment they must be patient. The wave of destruction must rise still higher, must spread still further. But when, from the depths of his heart, man desires something more lasting than wealth and something more real than material power, the wave will recede. Then peace will come, joy will come, light will come.

Suggesting folks pray for world peace it probably more about virtue signalling than anything else.

Im broke. I got nothing. I live in an appartment that is not mine. With furnitures that aren't mine. With scrap in the fridge. I got a bed that belongs to the trash.

So what do i do?

I start again; In my prayers I work...

When the Messiah comes, he will end all warfare. Psalm 46:9. "He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth..." God has already ended the Cold War and the Civil War in Ireland between the Protestants and Catholics. The Messiah is called "The Prince of Peace" Isaiah 9:6. Warfare will disappear from the earth. Isaiah 2:1-4. "...and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore".

That means you live in a prayer, not in the physical world. you don`t like the reality that is life?

Reality? I gonna go back to cut lumber. Study the circles on the woods make the most rational mind in my experience. As a tailor I will knit oversheets to dress the furnitures. I will continue to mock liberal in america for one again have ruined my Dreams. The Land Were the dreams come true simply overrun it self. And moreover, even though we wouldn't worship flags, i use the flags as a guidance in smithery.

The value in intercessory prayer like that is how it reinforces your own values and character, not that it actually accomplishes anything outside of that. Speak the words you wish to embody. It makes a difference in how you carry yourself. But in doing so, it is very important to know precisely what you mean so the virtues you choose to embody are realistic.
