Old School Refugee Crisis

Illegal aliens cannot receive welfare even today. Legal aliens cannot receive it for 5 years. So, what are you saying?

Immigrants can get welfare in the US.

Report: More than half of immigrants on welfare
Welfare Use by Legal and Illegal Immigrant Households

In the past there was no government welfare state. People had to rely upon the community for help not the government. Ergo the situation is different. More so the society was far more agrarian back then meaning a lot of people had skills sets related to farming and such. These days the urban population is far large with a lower skill sets until post university education. Ergo the labour people brought is far different now than back then.

Read PRWORA. It has numerous eligibility claims outside a 5 year window. It also lets states run their own programs with no 5 year limit. Also that limit is duration of benefits not a requirement to access.

Thank you for that observation.

concentration camp, like "racist" is a wonderfully
loose term to be used for political purposes.

Angel Island Immigration Station - Wikipedia

And of course, there were the camps for Japanese
in WW2, and Indian reservations with provisions
for escapees to be shot.

Seems to me if those democrats were soooo
concernned as all that, they might vote some funds
for better accommodations Might even (shudder)
donate some of their bloated salaries to show
how terribly concerned they are.

Congressional investigation? Or just fly down,
tell some lies, and go back to DC

That's a large and complicated question.

I'm culturally very Catholic, born and raised in an extremely Catholic family. I don't believe the theology, but that's not all that important. The community is what's important.

The liberal/conservative thing is much more complex. This country was built on the concept of immigration. Doesn't that make broadly inclusive immigration policy the conservative view?

Similarly, I think that people in general should find a compatible mate then get married and stay married if at all possible. That includes gay people, so I consider gay marriages being recognized by the state to be the conservative view.

I am so conservative that I sometimes appear liberal to many ideologues. One result is that I've been booted out of both the Liberal Only DIR and the Conservative Only DIR, here on RF.

My user title was "Celestial Highness" for a long time. But when I got booted out of the Conservative Only, and the Catholic, and the Liberal Only DIRs, I changed my user title to slightly better reflect the reality.

And also to annoy the RF staff. Just a little.

Tom

Political parties change. Some early Presidents were Democratic-Republicans. Some were Federalists.

Democratic-Republican Party | Encyclopedia.com

Also, at one time, the KKK were Democrats in the late 19th century.

It all depends on what time period you are in and what is considered Democrat or Republican at the time.

Because the Irish, like most immigrants of the time, entered the country legally. Criminals have their children taken away from them no matter what country they came from.
There is a certain three letter racist term that was used to denigrate Italian Americans. Do you know what I am referring too?

"Most programs require you to be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen."
I'm not researching further to see the specifics of this at the moment but I will check if you want.

PRWORA
Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (1996 - H.R. 3734) "President Bill Clinton signed PRWORA into law on August 22, 1996, fulfilling his 1992 campaign promise to "end welfare as we have come to know it".

"and supplanted the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Training program (JOBS) of 1988. The law was heralded as a "reassertion of America's work ethic" by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, largely in response to the bill's workfare component. TANF was reauthorized in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005."

This was a Republican sponsored bill which put people to work instead of allowing them to live on welfare without working.

What are you talking about?!!!!! You are missing something.

Good to know you do not read what you link. You have confused the 5 year limit as no access with how long they can use the programs as per sec 403 bb 7 and read all of Title 4 too....Yawn. Try your bluff on people that are too lazy to read the Bill.

Hint. There is something called a Table of Context. Heard of it?

You forgot the German and Italian internment camps. Not taught in U.S. history in schools but true.

Unfortunately, our country only states the European viewpoint. It is not all truth.

What? Me worry?

Sure, plus others with more letters. Also, names for an Irishman, Cajun, Black, Pole, French, German, et al,...your point?
