Whatever happened we don't really know. The reasoned assumption is that spirits were part of life back then. The denial of psedo science cheerleaders today of any spiritual aspect of life (because the poor blind mice of science can't see it) does not erase history. There are imageries of Babylonian and Assyrian gods with wings since the Bronze Age, and centuries before the Babylonian Exile. I think it highly unlikely that the Babylonian would copy Hebrew/Jewish religion, since monotheism in Judah has been around little more than half-a-century before Jerusalem had fallen.
Monotheistic Judaism was a brainchild of King Josiah’s politics and reform.
God told them He was the only real God and savior actually. Attributing that to a king is ridiculous.
