Fear of homosexuality

I'm very supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and am bi, even though:

1. I try to follow religion, which often ends up making me feel confused and dirty because of my orientation.

2. A lot of our LGBTQ+ RF'ers are quite a bit older than me so there may be a few communicational barriers at times which have nothing to do with sexuality.

You said what you said above. What, exactly, is "their narrative," to you? (Doesn't it feel grand to be able to label other people as "they" by the way? Makes you all warm and squishy inside, I bet.)

I can only know who you are through your words. And your words don't often speak of feelings of shared humanity with those who aren't a lot like you.
Ah, their narrative. The homosexual whine that Christians are responsible for their troubles. Since the thread was about homosexuals, are they not they ?

Like me, what does that mean ? Old ? heterosexual ? Left handed ? you tell me.

Find a religion that isn't homophobic, then. Most aren't. There's gay affirming churches if you insist on Christianity, as well. No reason to feel that way.

Romans 1:26-27
For this reason [viz. idolatry], God gave them up to passions of dishonor; for even their females exchanged the natural use for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise also the males, having left the natural use of the female, were inflamed by their lust for one another, males with males, committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was fitting for their error.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

Only a few verse from the bible that talk about the subject of homosexuality
None of those mention homosexuality. The best translation for Corinthians is “male prostitute,” not “homosexual.”

Pretty clear, isn´t it ?

I won't insist on Christianity. Sometimes I just get too deep into religious texts and it causes me cognitive dissonance, though. Even some religious texts say things that sound anti-gay. But it's the age-old debate.

Yes, extremely clear. Then again, I can provide billions upon billions of equally clear , written by homo sapiens (like those that wrote the Bible), that you would not like one bit. Your decision to make one book the idol of your existence does not, however, have any meaning for most of the rest of us (more than two thirds of the entire planet don't accept it, but perhaps you've forgotten that).

No, I suspect it probably means Christian. If you were someone else, it might mean Muslim or Jewish.

But do you know what? I have felt the brunt of Christian hate. I have written about it on RF before. I bear personal witness to the very prominent Canadian pastor, "Reverend Paul D. Smith" of the "People's Church" in Canada who, before his entire congregation and on national media, called for the execution of people like me...homosexuals. This was back in the early 1970s (yes, I'm old). I have had the (dis)pleasure of hearing many other Christians...and Jews and Muslims...spew hate towards me and the love that I bear for my life partner. How many times, in this thread alone, let alone many, many others right here in RF, have the words "abomination" and "their blood shall be upon them" been repeated? Sound like "Christian love" to you? You might be surprised to learn that it doesn't sound like it to me, and is basically indistinguishable from those great lights of Christianity at Westboro Baptist. Just some of you learn to wrap your hate in softer words. No competent reader is fooled by that ruse.

Do you really think, reading the responses of all the Christians in this thread alone, that Christian hatred has really evaporated, and you're all about "true love" now? Fatuous nonsense, because you're own words give that the lie.

Why are some of those who believe homosexuality is a sin so afraid of it?

Homosexuality in itself isn't a sin according to - as far as I am aware - any religion, so if we just think about homosexuality in general as a topic or homosexuals as a topic, why does it terrify some people so much?

It isn't the biggest sin, the most harmful sin, the most likely sin... It's one among others.

Where does the extreme fear come from and how could it be reduced among people who belive homosexuality is a sin, if we exclude the idea that the sin could be removed from the list or the people could become less religious on that issue.

It is possible to consider it a sin and even condemn it without feeling extreme fear, discomfort, frustration or anger when the topic is approached.

I am afraid of homosexuality.
I am afraid of pederasty, polygamy, cheating on your spouse, broken homes,
contempt for authority, narcissism, nihilism, love of violence, contempt for
religion and a million other things coarsening our culture and creating a new
generation of cynical children..... oh wait, we aren't having children anymore.

The standards of God are perfectly clear on this matter.

Reject the standards, fine, your choice.
A gazillion different religions, each with a gazillion subsects, all claiming to be "God's standard". Why should we trust yours above the countless others? The only reason you do is because you were raised to.
Add just a dash of logic, and all of these "standards of God" begin to buckle and nosedive.

Read my profile below. It's Gallup poll results for the USA.
You need to agree that it's not good.
The standards of the bible are given by the life of Jesus -
not in obscure translations, cultural differences, conflicting
sects and such. The moral code is simple and if everyone
lived by it you wouldn't have broken homes and the like.

But even the majority of Christians don't follow Christ's teachings or examples. In fact, he'd be mocked and dismissed as a hippy socialist if he returned unknown to them.

Absolutely, fear is not even a consideration.
However repugnance and disgust is,(for the practise not the persons) at least for those that have not been influenced by the constant stream of propaganda from the media and television presenting as normal a practise for which cities have been destroyed by God to clearly indicate his feeling toward the unnatural use of our bodies.

Romans 1:26" That is why God gave them over to sexual passion, for the female changed the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their passion,...liquewise the males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full penalty, which was due to their error".

I fear h
just like I fear all the figures in my profile.
It is said that in the Western world today the only time
people will actually do as they are told is in an airplane.
However, a news item yesterday about a Turkish bound
flight incident mentioned that in ten years there had been
45,000 incidents on board commercial planes.
The connection with h is people are increasingly challenging
the standards of our past. All moral values, religion and
authority are open to question.
