What do you hate about Christ (Christianity)?

Divided ? Thanks to the Reformation.

Diverse humanity ? - the Roman Catholic Church is the world's oldest surviving international organisation.

The Roman Catholic Church certainly has many outstanding attributes.

It is probably the largest religious denomination on the planet.

As an organisation it recognises the Divinity of Christ and the authenticity of the Gospels.

I accept the primacy of Peter as the first Pope.

The wheels began to fall off after the Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and the compromises that were necessary with the establishment of the Nicene Creed.

The Catholic/Protestant schism wasn’t the first for Christianity and the Catholic Church was certainly to blame in part.

I like the progress that has been made with the second Vatican Council that’s enabled constructive dialogue with peoples of other faiths. However it doesn’t go far enough in recognising the Divine origins of other world religions.

Having a male dominated clergy and priesthood looks seriously dated. The handling of the sexual abuse perpetrated by many of its priests has been poor.

Actually according to the scriptures God made several declarations that if a person has committed certain sins they will be punished by the eternity in the fiery pit
Matthew
“Then he will say to those on his left, e‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.but I totally agree with you.

Oh I've no doubt that there's a scriptural basis for believing in everlasting fire.

I'm just pointing out that this is incompatible with an infinitely merciful god. I also maintain that belief in that kind of Hell does far more harm than good.

What do you dislike about Jesus?

I ask mods to be lenient to those who vent their grievances, for I'm trying to understand hatred for Christianity and it's founder. My goal is not to stir up insults towards a Religion, but rather my goal is to understand better why people despise the religion and it's founder, and some of that can be learned even by letting them vent their hatred. I have gone through times where I hated Christianity and hated Jesus, even hated hearing the name. I'm just trying to understand why. (It's kind of difficult to hate someone who loves his enemies and forgives those who crucified him.)

If you hate Christ or hate Christianity, please be honest and transparent, but in a way that will educate me and perhaps others who share this interest, not in a way that violated the rules.

I don't want any hatred in my heart. However, there is something I still hate about Christianity. This idea that those who die without accepting Jesus as Lord and savior go to hell to be miserable for ever is just ridiculous, but so prevalent. Does he really love them? If he's going to send them to hell for simply not believing a doctrine about an unseen entity, how could that in any way be reconciled with love. He told us to love our enemies. If he doesn't follow his own advice, doesn't that make him a hypocrite? So, the hell Dogma is actually very unchristian in my opinion. To hell with it! :p

This common belief that a person cannot be enlightened, informed, rehabilitated, and convert after death bothers me as well.

Jesus never did anything but Good to others. How do you propose to find something to dislike him for. A strange question for a man who only healed, fed and helped people.

The Church of Constantine died in the 1960's; the RCC has been in limbo since.

The problem is Clericalism. The ordination of women would double-up, not solve, the problem.

It would also wreck the Church by handing control over it to middle-class radical feminists.

That's not an issue for an omnipotent God. He could simultaneously have free will and the absence of evil.

That sounds impossible but omnipotence by definition means that God would be able to achieve it anyway. It's like the old thought experiment, "Could an omnipotent God create a weight too heavy for him to lift, then proceed to lift it?" The answer has to be yes because otherwise God would not be omnipotent in the first place. There is no such thing as impossibility to such a deity.

Look, for what it's worth it is possible to believe in both God and Hell without contradiction. You just remove one or more attributes from your conception of God. To give a few examples of how this could work:

- God is not omnipotent. This means that Hell can exist simultaneously with a merciful deity as it's possible that said deity is simply powerless to be rid of Hell.

- God is not omniscient. This means that God may be merciful and have the power to unmake Hell but isn't aware of its existence. This one's trickier to work with if you also maintain that god is omnipotent as he could then choose to make himself omniscient also.

- God is not merciful. It's possible that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the universe is also a sadist. I would think this is the ultimate nightmare scenario but it isn't inherently contradictory.

Liberty (free will) necessarily creates the possibility of evil. Both nature and human nature are not yet fully redeemed (but will be, for those willing to be fully redeemed.).

God is omnipotent - but refuses to use His omnipotence to turn His creations into benevolent puppets.

God certainly isn't cruel - otherwise Heaven wouldn't exist.

Does that mean it must be forced upon others?

There is a difference between instruction and indoctrination.

It can be argued that Galileo was the inventor of modern science, ask him why he was put under house arrest by the church

Before him it was down to greek scientists who laid the foundations long before christianity was a twinkle in Panteras' eye. Followed by muslim muslim scientists while europe was still in a dark age of religious authority.

Then came the renaissance and there were several other Europeans after Galileo who contributed,. In a time where the vast majority of europe was christian by default it is fortunate that a few of them sought to put scientific progress before their religion

The Golden Age of Islam was certainly creative - but it wasn't liberal.

Europe was then in a Dark Age of poverty and confusion due to : (1) the collapse of the Roman Empire, (2) attacks from Vikings, Magyars and (above all) Muslims.

Only thanks to Christianity and the Catholic Church did Europe retain its liberty and independence.

There is, of course, no conflict between science and religious faith - there can't be, since they deal with completely different fields.

The persecution of Galileo was due to insecure Vatican hardliners forgetting this.

But if everything has a cause, then logically god too must have a cause as there is no real reason to assume a creator of this universe is as "big as it gets."

God is as Big - and as self-sufficient - as it gets.

There must be a starting point, a First Cause - i.e. one which doesn't itself have a cause !

You don't have to be a Christian to understand it. It lends no esoteric knowledge or occult secrets to understanding the Bible just because you are Christian. And, also, I was Christian, so there is that to shoot down your silly "you can't understand because your not Christian" nonsense.

Kindness isn't drowning 99% of all living things because maybe at most 1% were being bad.

No - 99% of human beings (young children aside) were being bad.

And were going to Hell.

To prevent this horror continuing, God sent the Flood.

And even many of the 99% of baddies repented when the storms and flood began !

Such a doctrine caused ongoing and irreparable damage to my family though it is not catholic. I can't see that teaching as anything but a vicious swipe. It should be repudiated forthwith, but I know it won't. Satan this, Satan that Satan, Satan etc. Its especially bad for bipolars and schizos, and its blatantly not helping either the RC or anyone else nor incorporates truths from the world. Its instead just a device for scaring people. It doesn't explain any principle in the universe that can be found or detected. It also doesn't explain the presence of evil nor ways of combating it.

It explains both.

Whereas you do not.

Well I feel so sorry for you buddy, cause you are oblivious to the fact, but so many Christians are the same way, I know plenty of people who believe like me, and they too are full of peace, joy, happiness, loving, and yes we have problems like anyone else, but because of our spiritual knowledge we don't allow it to disrupt our Joy, we face it and solve it and thank the creater for giving me patience and understanding. Leaving religion and seek my spirituality is the best move I have ever made. I wish you could feel the goodness also.

Such tripe as you have posted is popular in the Western world.

It is unknown out in the real world, where people have real problems.

I noticed you said by Christian teaching, God is infinitely kind and merciful, Now ,I agree that The Creator I serve (God) is infinitely kind and merciful, however I don't believe in the bible version of God,The angry ,jealous, selfish, judgemental, plague sending, dominating, closed minded, damning people to hell cause they made mistakes;God of Christians and scriptures!! so you don't believe in the bible version of God either?

God doesn't send people to Hell - their own (everlasting) craving for evil does.

I interpret the Bible differently, from the statement in 1 John "God is Kindness."

The rest of the Bible has to be seen in that light - and in the light of Jesus Christ's sacrificial death on our behalf.

It is not their sins - but their everlasting refusal to repent (and thus to persist eternally in those sins) - that plunges them into everlasting fire.

The fire is generated by their own evil hearts.

Human beings aren't the only living things on this planet. Some species, such as insects, even heavily outnumber us. But they all died because because Jehovah is cruel, violent, and bloodthirsty.
