Of course I will agree with Adyashanti. But what he is saying here should be understood in context. Yes, you will in fact be much happier, once you have gotten rid of untruth, which is a destructive process. Awakening means you no longer believe the dream-state is true. Everything we believed was reality, was an illusion to ourselves to hide us from the light of Truth.

You have to be willing to face having every brick lifted out and every crack filled in with new mortar. Then after that tearing down of the old has been transformed into the new, then true happiness, not fleeting temporary happiness will be you life as you now life in honest, open, and authentic Truth.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. - 1 Corinthians 13:9-10

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” - Revelations 21:1-4

Like Windwalker said, the process itself is not always a joyous one, it's "the first heaven and first earth" fading away, the dream crumbling around us, but the rainbow at the end is the waking up to God. It's the new heaven and the new earth where we walk with God again. I admit to not being enlightened enough to experience that fully but I can feel the veil being torn back, the light breaking through the thinning fabric.

Who is this Adyashanti? I beg to differ. Is enlightenment a destructive process? If it destroys untruth, it brings forth truth. It is not complete eradication. It is complete understanding.

These are all media-hogging people who do not know what they are talking about.
.. but the rainbow at the end is the waking up to God.
If you find God at the end of the rainbow, IMHO, you still have to go farther.

I agree. Enlightenment might be likened to a series of *doh* moments, some which may be painful or embarrassing. Processing the poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion can be painful to process.

yep

that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Thank you, it's a nice quote.

I feel like happy people often think themselves enlightened. That's why I don't like them - not because they're happy, but because they think they're "right" in being happy.

Someone said once somewhere something along the lines of: "the person who's laughing doesn't know what's going to happen next."

Thanks for sharing.

I would say a huge feature of enlightenment would be a great sense of humour - Here's another page I found -

One of the problems in explaining enlightenment is that we have to use words. Words are only symbols and don’t give the real understanding. The letters of a word are merely a code that the mind translates into meaning. Words only have meaning if you already have an experiential knowledge of what the words mean. If you were blind could you understand color through just words? Can you describe music to someone using only words? Can you describe the emotion of love only using the symbols of words? Words are only effective at communicating experience if the experience is already known. You know color, music, and emotion because you have perceived them directly. Enlightenment is not an experience that one already has a reference for and so a word description is not likely to be meaningful enough to convey an understanding.

Determination is to knowing as saving one is to safety. Knowledge of life creates science, belief in life creates happiness.
