The power to propel us to the stars

Can we reach the stars and beyond?

The answer is YES!!

Getting humans into outer space is not the problem. Humans have already walked on the moon. The problem with space travel is the vast distance between our solar system and the nearest one to us. The problem is in the speed needed to reach these far-off places in a reasonable time frame. The solution to the has been right in front of us.

Take for example someone at the front of a train traveling 100 MPH. If the person fires a bullet out ahead of the trail that travels at 300 MPH if you clocked the speed of this bullet it would clock at 400 MPH, not 300.

The same principle could be applied to space travel. The craft would have multiple propulsion engines. When the first one is fired it propels to craft to a speed of 1,000 MPH. When the second propulsion engine is fired (with the same propulsion force as the first), the craft is now traveling at a speed of 1,000+1,000 equaling a speed of 2,000 MPH.

If you continue firing these engines your speed increases with each engine burn. The ultimate speed you reach depends on how many bursts your engines can provide With one burst at a time you could reach the speed of light and beyond.

Or so it seemed~~~~~~~~

Now, some time later I discarded the above idea, a spacecraft could not contain enough fuel to propel us to distant stars.

Then an actual solution came to mind.

We use the force of gravity to pull us to wherever we want to go. Magnify the force of gravity using the gravity pull of galaxies channeling that pull in a narrow band multiply the pulling force of gravity exponentially to a limitless speed.

It would only clock at 400 mph in relation to the third point, by which you are clocking the speed of the train. In relation to the train, the bullet would be traveling at 300 mph. To someone traveling on a parallel course who was even with the person who fired the bullet at that moment, but was traveling at 400 mph*, the speed of the bullet would be zero.

There is a universal speed limit involved with travelling through space , that being the speed of light.

The inverse relationship between the force of gravity and the distance between two objects is based on the square of that distance. This means that if the distance is doubled, the gravitational force is decreased by a factor of 4. Galactic distances are so far away from us, their gravitational force acting upon any spacecraft near us would be zero for all practical purposes.

Neither liquid-fuel propelled rockets nor gravity assists would ever provide a practical way of getting any of us to the stars, nuclear propulsion might be a practical way of achieving interstellar space travel. Some scientists now are already very familiar with nuclear energy. Project Orion was initiated way back in 1958; this project conceptualized a spacecraft design using atomic bombs detonating behind the spacecraft, enabling the spacecraft to reach a top speed of 6,200 miles per second (10,000 km/s). However, even at this tremendously fast speed, journeying from Earth to Alpha Centauri would take 133 years.

Project Orion, currently remains one of the few remotely viable ways to send a probe to the nearest stars; however, due to the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty signed by 123 nations prohibiting all test detonations of nuclear devices in outer space, Project Orion was terminated in 1963.

Hopefully, in the future, a breakthrough in nuclear fusion technology will make hydrogen fusion power a viable propulsion system option for interstellar space travel.

Don't you run into the issue of an accelerating expanding space and also the question why galaxies are not colliding all over the place? Wouldn't they pull each other together as well?

Good point, as space expands, super clusters of galaxies are moving away from each other, hence, a further obstacle towards utilizing gravitational energy from far off galaxies.

Stopping a ship at that speed might also be a problem.

I don’t believe the laws of physics work that way.
When you fire the bullet, the forces being exerted would actually slow the train down. Maybe the train would then only be going 99.99999999 MPH. Yet if you have a space ship on a space ship, the propulsion from the second one would likely slow the first one to the point where there would be no incremental speed gain. The train’s mass vs. the bullet’s is enormous. But the spaceship’s masses would be equal. I have no idea what I just said, but it seemed to make sense at the time.

I would think at infinitesimally high speeds, free floating debris and dust would literally shred pretty much any Earth craft into pieces before it would get very far .

Not if we were put in some form of hibernation state, maybe even frozen for the long journey. When we wake up it would be as if we are waking up from a nights sleep.

no really.....the only thing that moves at the speed of light
is light

until we learn to become light
and then rematerialize.....

we are stuck here

the movie Stargate hit on the method
but that requires someone to go there …..wherever
and build a receiving unit to down load the incoming traveler

that set up will be countless centuries in the making

and even then
the launch signal would have to be directed to the target......right on the mark
or you just keep going
as a beam of light

or maybe
becoming a spirit.....having form AS light

but it would still take a long time to get …..there

I've heard of a possible scenario where human embryos could be stored on a spaceship and sent out towards another system and might not arrive for hundreds of years. A computer could be programmed to activate the embryos upon arrival and then be the guardian/teacher of a new race of humans on some other world.

We may get all these answers sooner than you think. I believe we have been visited by aliens and they are with us today. At some point in our near future they may reveal themselves and give us the tools to travel the stars ourselves or more likely they will stay hidden while whispering the answers we need in our ears without us even being aware they were doing it.
