Biden: "There's not a racist bone in my body"

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
That wouldn't make someone a racist. Of course the Australian Aboriginal and blonde Scandinavian are both human, but yet there are many differences between the two, both in appearance and culture. IMO, it's those who bumble on about how they can't see that and hiw they are "colorblind of race," and think everyone is basically the same is far more racist for refusing to acknowledge what is so obvious and rather important to some people.
It just isn't race either, remember we had different species of humans living on this planet.

Honestly I think all the issues under the race banner are more culturally based than a person's physical composition, that gets sucked in from time to time because it gives something for people to point a finger at.

Its a technicality to clear up, but will it really make a difference to those who are already racist?

Well they wouldn't be racist then. We could all laugh at them when they declare their race the master race. We could teach the children in school that race is not a thing and being racist is not a thing but being a bigot is and its wrong. People would have a much harder time grouping by ethnicity, what is the Caucasian ethnicity the current bigots probably couldn't decide.

Joe Biden defends comments about segregationist senators - CNNPolitics

Other candidates were critical of Biden's remarks:

I figured with such a large field of candidates, there'd be a lot of back-biting and infighting like this. By the time the Democrats finish tearing each other apart, the only one left standing to face Trump will be battered and bruised. Maybe that will still be Biden, but it appears he'll be on the hotseat for a while.

But it does seem a rather odd phrase to utter: "Not a racist bone in my body."

I've seen a familiar pattern where someone says something unfortunate or kind of dumb (such as AOC's remark about "concentration camps"), and people jump on it like a pack of wolves on a three-legged cat.

Then they either have to apologize, try to explain their remarks, or defend it to the hilt. Here, Biden isn't apologizing, but explaining while vehemently insisting that none of his bones are racist. But notice how he hasn't said a word about his pancreas or gall bladder, which might still be questionable.

He has no answer the mob will accept besides capitulation.

Biden is a racist, NAZI child molester. His hands are sooo weird too. I also heard he gropes women and boys constantly.

Should he ever become president, he should be impeached.

True. But you've still not actually demonstrated he holds racist thoughts himself. You made the accusation, you must provide the evidence.
The evidence is that he is a human being. He grew up in a racist culture. Institutionalized racism as @metis pointed out. People will have some racist thoughts as a result of that.

As racism is apparently what anyone chooses to
attack in someone else, yeah, who knows.

I see many obvious"racial" differences in people.
East Indians in Hong Kong are distinct Westerners
and from Filipinos and Chinese or Africans.

Each groups attitude toward and expectations of the
others are different, and for specific real reasons.
Sometimes we misread someone. It happens.

Not just between races, but within. A guy with ratty
clothes goes in and buys a Mercedes after they
thinking he was a bum. A well dressed fraud gets
away with a scam.

I hope that today's obsession with "race" will get around
to evapourating one of these days. The next person who
tries referring to me as a "person of color" may be the
one who said it once too often.
Tribalism is a!most certainly an evolutionary trait. We see differences in people and recognize that as a potential threat. It often takes a conscious effort to think beyond that. Realizing that tribalism exists, which leads to racism, is one of the first steps in controlling it. Since it probably is evolutionary I do not think that it can be defeated soon. Learning that visual differences are very minor may be the first step. From there one can work on appreciating cultural differences. But odds are that at times our first thoughts will often be those old instinctual thoughts that need to be controlled.

That isn't any actual evidence against Biden. You may as well say all Americans are Ugly Americans when they travel abroad, because thats the culture.

Pretty much as I said, its a technicality to clear up, but it wont make a difference to a bigot.

We can actually find minute genetic differences (skin pigmentation, genetic disorders, variations in skeletal structure), so based on that we may also have a psychological drive to identify "us and them." And then after that, and to a much larger degree as far as the "real world" goes, culture is a tremendous factor.

Then can I assume that you believe that you've achieved a higher level of competence than Vice President of the United States?

You can assume whatever you like. The principle applies to everyone.

As for titles (such as VP), they don't mean jack.

Then they either have to apologize, try to explain their remarks, or defend it to the hilt.

Apologise on an issue like this and you're done for. Might as well black up for a fancy dress party...

(I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong, just what is pragmatic)

I didn't know we were allowed to talk about that without being called racist.

They are facts. It happened because we've evolved in various climates around the world, and stayed there with little enough mixing for there to be some differences that accumulated over the millennia.

True, although the other side of this is that we can probably expect some more mudslinging between the Democratic candidates leading into the primary season next year.

This is what happened at the last Democratic fundraising dinner:

The 2020 convention should be a real gas.

Then judge the man by the contents of his character rather than the color of his skin and time he was born.

So, you are condeming him based on nothing but speculation? Thats not a very fair way to judge someone.

I did not condemn him. Nor was that speculation. You are sounding like a creationist. He made an over the top statement. Any human will be affected by his environment. Are you claiming that Biden is not human? I know that you want someone to beat Trump, so do I. But if a person makes statements that are almost bound to blow up it is not a wise move to make politically.
