I wonder what exactly it is that MidWesterners take too much interest in people while Californians mind their own business? Is it living in places like Indiana is so miserable they have to make it more miserable for others? Is it the general lack of religiousness? Could it be the weather here doesn't suck?
I object to scorpions, to states that are likely to fall into the ocean and to high rent microcosms.

***edit*** I gotta say seriously its a beautiful country with some nice weather.

I liked Nevada. Arizona and Southern California.....But I am not a big fan of Scorpions, Tarantulas, black widows or the number of other venomous spiders that live there.....also not a big fan of Rattle Snakes. Oddly enough I do like Cactus.....even though the organ pipe cactus will jump you when you least expect it....I still like cactus...especially the stately Saguaro

I grew up in southern California, and lived in L.A. for ten years. I think it has to do with being exposed to so much diversity all the time; all different kinds of people and a general attitude of tolerance prevails (for the most part). When you live in the city, if you gawked at anything different, you'd be gawking all day--so people don't.

That makes sense. When you grow up with diversity, tolerance comes much more easily because you know different folk personally or are at least exposed to them.
