Japanese ship owner contradicts U.S. account of how tanker was attacked

An artillery shell that large couldn't be fired from very far. Why did the crew not identify the ship supposedly firing upon them? Notice that all of the ships were quickly surrounded by Iranians. Odd coincidence. Also notice that the Japanese owner ordered the crew not to board Iranian vessels, so they boarded the US destroyer. Why?

The Iranian ships were there because they were in Iranian territorial water, all the crews were rescues by the Iranians, not the US.

A better question; "Why would Iran attack Japanese ships, then deny it?" Specific and complete answers only please. Vague, generic claims about "envelope expanding" with no analysis of how, why or long term strategy aren't constructive.

Well the USA has been caught outright lying about the events, the whole thing is suspect.

You might consider reading the article before posting, Comrade Lyndon.

I did read the initial reports that all but one of the sailors was rescued by the Iranians, now the USA is trying to change the story to justify their goal of a war with Iran. USA cannot be believed at all.

I'm talking about the OP article but obviously you have your own theories. That's fine. Have a nice day, sir.

Scroll up: Intimidation. Is there any doubt Iran could have sunk that tanker if it wanted to do so? They used much larger mines in the late 1980s to damage shipping including the USS Samuel B. Roberts. Result? The US hunted the mining ships at night and blew them out of the water. Iran's leaders are religious fanatics but they aren't stupid. Limpet mines are an irritation. An intimidation. A threat. Not something to go to war over.

All the holes in these attacks are above the waterline. Missiles or limpet mines. If it was arty the trajectory was very flat as the holes in the pictures don't seem to show a projectile hitting at a high arc.

RPG from a small boat?

Also, we have a carrier battle group in the area. They have AWACS aircraft that could spot small boats. Thinking that nearly any ship radar could see small boats.

A puzzler.

ISIS?

It would have to be close to achieve a flat trajectory. I think limpet mines are the most logical weapon. Also not above the waterline. This is a message, not an attempt to sink a tanker.

Yes, which is why there is video of Iranian whale boats pulling up next to tankers.

Iran, not ISIS.

I, too, wondered why anyone would attach a limpet mine above the waterline.

Explosives are often identified by the residue. Formulations of explosives can point to a source but not to the perp necessarily.

Get those tankers to a place where a forensic investigation can be done, hopefully by a third party.

What the article actually said:

The crews of both vessels were evacuated to other ships nearby. Both Iran and the US later released pictures showing rescued crew members on board their vessels.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
One thing I've learned from life is that not everything is always what it seems.

There is going to be so many pieces of the puzzle missing and mixed up I don't think we'll ever get the picture as the common citizenry.

I'll take Japan at their word though given their the ones who were involved with the unknown attacker.

It could be Iran but you would think the Japanese would have pointed that out by now if that was the case.

One thing I think we all can agree on there's somethings very fishy going on if you'll pardon the pun.

It makes you wonder where the United Nations is? You think that's why they were set up after World War II, cast in the role as an international watchdog and peacekeeping contingent.

Why would Iran want to intimidate Japan? This is the crux question you're not answering
