Today's lessons from the Holy Scriptures:

Judges 16:1 One day Samson went to Gaza, where he saw a prostitute. He went in to spend the night with her.

Ezekiel 23:20: There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Genesis 19:31-36:
One day the older daughter said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. Let’s get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father.”

That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.

Ezekiel 16:17 You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them.

Song of Solomon 5:4 My beloved thrust his hand through the latch-opening; my heart began to pound for him.

Genesis 30:16-17:
So when Jacob came in from the fields that evening, Leah went out to meet him. “You must sleep with me,” she said. “I have hired you with my son’s mandrakes.” So he slept with her that night.

God listened to Leah, and she became pregnant and bore Jacob a fifth son.

The Word of the Lord.

What is the lesson that you're trying to derive from these verses though? You left that part out.

If it were KJV it would have said " and my bowels were moved by him" rather than "my heart began to pound for him", bowels makes more sense
To a modern reader it doesn't. Bowels fits with the heavily dated language of the KJV. To us today, heart sounds far more poetic and romantic. Bowels were moved by him sounds like a euphemism for anal. Which was the point of the NIV, to attempt to make the Bible more 20th century friendly.

The intent of the author was to convey he was giving her an orgasm. "my heart was pounding for him" just doesn't convey that

And bowels does? Its a poem in one language going to another, so artistic creativity is already a given just to keep things pleasant.

The Song of Songs isn't some Hallmark channel romance, it is straight up erotica and when it comes to erotica pleasant don't work, "and my bowels were moved by him" expresses that something hardcore is going on whereas "my heart was pounding for him" sounds like some young adult fiction straight out Twilight. I am now awaiting for some sparkling vampires to appear.

Thats kind of the point. The NIV was to make the Bible easier for the modern reader and more relatable. Erotica or not, today we dont associate the bowels with romance, orgasms or even "regular sex." But we do the heart.

More against it being considered morally proper and that its taught to children.

No as with any adult content a child comes across you have to tone it down a bit for them. Unfortunately some people never grow out of this child like understanding of the Bible.

But its better than ruining their childhood trying to explain why some popular figures Sampson, Saul, David, Paul, amongst many other revered figures were flawed men. And being flawed men that still served God is a powerful message because it goes against the holier than though attitude a lot if folks have unfortunately.

Yes, it has to be said that Ezekiel 23 is pretty ripe, as if written by a dirty old man.

Perhaps a good one for our biblical literalists!

My lover put his hand in through the opening:

my innermost being trembled because of him.

My innermost being: lit., "innards'

Gen 15:23, Is 49:1, Ps 71:6, seems to imply the meaning of the 'womb'
