Catholic School Bans Girls’ Skirts Because “Male Faculty Feel Uncomfortable”

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
It'd probably help if the skirt and the schoolgirl's uniform weren't by far and away two of the most overwhelmingly fetishized things in the entire world... Which is a problem for men created by men, but still. A big sex roleplay detox for a few decades would do society some good...
No more Japanese anime of school girl antics? Oo

Nothing at all about an "abuse of the dress code." According to the article, all the male teachers were concerned with was skirt length and their inability to talk to the girls about it--

Yes they are afraid to confront the girls about their attire. Because it could be seen as sexual harassment nowadays. You are misrepresenting it as they are uncomfortable because they are aroused. This is a misrepresentation. If you didn't quote mine you'd realize this.

Male faculty feel uncomfortable addressing female students about the length of their skirts, even female faculty have expressed frustration with the ongoing challenge of dress code,” Calkins wrote in the email

See eve the female faculty have expressed frustration with the ongoing challenge of dress code. This indicates the girls have been abusing the dress code (shock). They are trying to get away with breaking the dress code, got busted, and now mad because they lost the privilege to wear skirts. Its a private institution they have the right to enforce whatever dress code they see fit.

Catholic high school girls look for trouble.

A time-honored reputation and tradition needs to be upheld you know.

My bad. Off the top of my head at the time, I guess answering, "I am not unable to see the difference" just didn't ring right.

.
But, that isn't what you posted on the Internet.
I am very judgemental. And I notice what people post on RF.
You answered "Yes" to "Are you unable to see the difference between a modest skirt and a package for the goods".

Having read a gazillion of your posts, I'm pretty sure that what you posted was true.

This is called projection. Projecting an unfounded conclusion on a situation.

SO----
Show your evidence that this is what they are afraid of
Show that it could be seen as sexual harassment nowadays

You are misrepresenting it as they are uncomfortable because they are aroused.
First of all, I didn't use the word "uncomfortable." Go back and reread.

Secondly, just how did you get "they are aroused" out of "their inability"? Never mind. I have a pretty good idea. ;)

.
But, that isn't what you posted on the Internet.
Tom
I already said, "My bad." What do you need, a written confession that I was wrong?

How about a reason for me to believe that young, scantily clad, women aren't such a big deal to you?
It appears that they are.

And you weren't just wrong once. You then went on to misquote me, as if that were the reason you posted what you did.

Nope perhaps you are the one projecting?

I'd imagine you do have a good idea since your first thought was accusing the Male faculty of being pedos. Which has absolutely nothing to do with the issue.

My suspicion is that some male teacher, or perhaps two or three, in the school is wrestling with pedophilia, and is looking for help by having the school distance the temptation from himself from.

There was nothing sexual about the article. You turned it into that.

You are the one projecting.

"Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego has a new dress code rule for next year: Girls are banned from wearing skirts because they’re distracting too many men.

MML180515_395f.jpg

After issuing “thousands of hours of detention” to students modifying the length of uniform skirts, Principal Kevin Calkins sent news of the ban to students in an email on Friday, local media reported. In the email, Calkins wrote that the dress code exists to foster a faith-based environment where students are focused on learning and not outward appearances.

“Male faculty feel uncomfortable addressing female students about the length of their skirts, even female faculty have expressed frustration with the ongoing challenge of dress code,” Calkins wrote in the email.
Mind you, the new rule is not to ban short skirts — most public schools have similar rules — but to ban skirts altogether. Girls will now only be allowed to wear long pants or (what are they thinking?) Bermuda shorts.

Several girls at the school protested the decision yesterday morning with signs saying things like “I’m sorry… Did my knees distract you from reading this poster?” “Even Jesus wore a skirt” and “Stop sexism. Start education.”

(One sign said “My body, my choice”… which suggests a complete ignorance of Catholic dogma.)

They raise some good points, though. If the skirts are too short, then the school should enforce its own rules. If the appropriate-length skirts are a distraction, then the school should say something to the men. It’s ultimately not the girls’ fault that other people can’t deal with their fashion. And why did the school make girls pay for special uniforms that are now banned only for them?

The girls also point out an obvious double standard: The school has a rule prohibiting facial hair on boys, too, but they’re not very strict about enforcing that. A girl wears a comfortable skirt, however, and all hell breaks loose.

An anonymous and brief petition posted at Change.org calls for the skirts to remain in place. It has thousands of signatures, and the comments are a joy to read:

Ok so the reasoning behind this was that “male teachers are uncomfortable”. If a male teacher feels uncomfortable over the length of a MINOR’S skirt, they have no business being anywhere near a high school. Maybe try to crack down on that rather than continuing to sexualize underage girls?

Tell the boys to keep their eyes up and there won’t be a dang issue

Girls’ clothing at school especially should allow them to feel comfortable in their bodies, not restricted by the opinion of faculty with a superiority complex and need to dictate their bodies. The challenges and complexities of being a growing teenage girl do not need to be heightened by further unnecessary dress codes that instill in girls what is or isn’t “appropriate” through the lens of adults unfamiliar with the pressures and anxieties of being a teenage girl in 2019.
At least there’s one upside to the change:

Oh my gosh it is so bad right now,” said Mimi Cleary, another student. “Everyone wants to leave Cathedral, and it’s like not the best.”
Well, at least they’re quickly learning what it means to be a woman in the Catholic Church. If they have the option to leave, they should take it."

Deadlock situation. I believe the Bible forbids trousers and such.

All schools everywhere have had issues with dress code at some point in time. School admin can never please everybody all the time. It does take some attention away from more important things like learning.

But the real question is whether or not the third girl from the left is wearing two different length socks, or is one sock just pulled higher?

wait..... they were wearing ... SOCKS? I had to actually go back and look...yes... there are socks...

Whatyaknow?

Okay, I did find some words.

As I understand it, unlike public school teachers, or parochial school teachers of other religious denominations, those In Catholic schools seem to have a propensity of being distracted by bare female legs/knees. As is mentioned in the article,

"If a male teacher feels uncomfortable over the length of a MINOR’S skirt, they have no business being anywhere near a high school."

And in as much as skirts have been acceptable school attire for over a hundred years, obviously something is amiss with the male teachers at Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego. They are the problem, not the skirts or the girls that wear them. And if, for whatever reason, the girls are raising the hemlines of their skirts above an acceptable height, then that's the issue that needs to be addressed, not the wearing of skirts itself. If so, it seems the school has decided to not go to the bother of addressing the skirt length of individual girls, but simply take the easy way out by doing away with skirts altogether.

My suspicion is that some male teacher, or perhaps two or three, in the school is wrestling with pedophilia, and is looking for help by having the school distance the temptation from himself from. To note: "In July 2014, Pope Francis was quoted as having said in an interview that about 8,000 Catholic clergy (2% of the total), including bishops and cardinals, were pedophiles."* After all, who isn't aware of the sexual abuse scandal that's been going on in Catholic institutions?

*Source; Wikipedia

.

Technically, pedophilia involves prepubescent aged children. So then, me liking to see the exposed legs of high school Catholic young ladies would not make me a pedophile.

Having grown up in the Catholic school system, and now living in the #metoo world, I can totally understand why the staff of such schools would make this decision.

When "just believe the accuser, no matter how ridiculous the accusation" is the prevailing world view, I'd just make everyone wear the same thing.
Ankle length pants.
