I am reading a book by Ram Dass and was wondering if Bhakti yoga is always directed toward a deity or just everyone in general. As an agnostic type, I don't want to love a deity.

If you are agnostic, why do you want to do bhakti yoga?

Nobody's forcing you. I think bhakti is a personal calling.

One can hardly be an agnostic in Hinduism (though, IMHO, one can be an atheist). :D
Correction: One who is practicing 'Karma Yoga' can be an agnostic. 'I follow my 'dharma' and do not know anything else'. 'Dharmavyadha' in Srimad Bhagawatham.

Okay, I will look into that type. Thanks!
