The latest Nanny state attack on individual choice by the Socialist Democrats commences yet again.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Yes there is! Because the stupidity never stops, if people stopped being stupid we wouldn't need more laws to hold them accountable for their stupidity.
Let them stupid themselves into the Darwin Awards then. There will be less of them. An all-around win-win!

Tell that to the Socialist Democrats in San Francisco in California. Feces and needles all over the place as well as living corpses lining up the walls shooting themselves up even more.

Someday you might realize that it's never about a person safety or health or well-being. You need to look at the trees in the forest .

It becomes crystal clear what the Socialist Democrats intents are. The least of it having to do with health and safety. None of the socialists in power are concerned about people's safety or well-being. You're arguably foolish if you do.

SF is a mess. That is hardly a reason to not try to
make somewhere else cleaner.
I do not think I am the one being foolishly ideological.

Hey I'm pro-choice. Infanticide and backroom mafia coat hanger procedures are far worse.

I don't agree with everything on my side .
So, the answer is No.
When Republicans ban pot and abortions and such, "I don't care as much as when Democrats do it."
Am I missing something?
Sounds pretty darned hypocritical to me.

Another Hallmark of the socialist Democrat. That inflated sense of superiority
No it is my own self-interest speaking. Stupid people can and do cause harm to me and others. I believe that their stupidity should be curbed so I don't get caught in the crossfire of stupid ****. That is my pure unadulterated self-interest, I am concerned about my safety and well-being not theirs but mine and their stupidity puts my safety and well-being in jeopardy.

Now it's threatening people who walk and text.

New York might make it illegal to text while walking - CNN

Once again Democrats socialist demonstrate their willingness to control what you can and cannot do and Implement yet another money grab. It's all they know how to do with people.

It appears to apply only when crossing the street.
For those commies in NYC, that's actually a pretty reasonable prohibition.

The same self interest that leads us to think people
should get driver education!
As for the texters, I may not care about them personally,
but I really really really do not want to be the driver who
runs one down.

Good! People who text while walking are annoying and they cause accident. This isn't nanny-state, this common sense. I keep getting bumped into by people who are not looking at where they are going. They also do it while crossing the street which is dangerous to them and others. But if I created the laws instead of fining them I would make it lawful for the general public to beat the stupid out of them.

Accidents all too often affect those other than just the one causing it.

I am all for it. Are you against restaurant inspections,
the pure food and drug act, air pollution and zoning laws?

We could direct you to 3rd world countries that are
so free the USA looks like a convent. Wanna move
there? It will be groovy when you get hepatitis.

Just yesterday, I watched a girl who was staring at her phone just walk off the sidewalk directly in front of oncoming cars who then had to slam on their brakes so as not to kill her, and possibly themselves and others.

It's a safety issue. We're not allowed to text and drive here either.

Are you guys just in favor of making stupidity illegal? I mean heck some days I actually agree, but still. Making it illegal to text and walk is rather extreme. What's next, making it illegal to read and walk? Check your phone and walk? Inspect your ice cream cone and walk? There are millions of ways people can get distracted while walking. Do you really want to make all of them illegal? What would the punishment be? Community service? Probation? Jail time? Cone of shame?

If you can't figure out that road hazards like this effect the public, not just the individual (car swerves out of the way into other motorists, people are knocked into danger or get hurt in the fall, damages to persons and properties outside the individual by these accidents) then there's no helping you.

The battle cry of 'muh freedoms' these days is so often just a cry to be a self-centered without checks against behavior that causes tangible harm. And the slippery slope fallacies to 'total oppression!' are eyeroll worthy. This mentality needs a little nannying, because it's so very childish.

But it wouldn’t work.
You can’t eliminate stupidity.
If you did, the majority of humanity would disappear.

Somebody please look up "socialism." It does not mean the advocacy of policies that affect the general welfare of all, nor even state sponsorship of some important areas like healthcare or welfare, paid for by general taxation.

the definition of socialism
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting
of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution,
of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
One can have capitalism and policies which provide any social benefit desired.
And it looks more capable of doing that than socialism.

No, because one cannot "make stupidity illegal".

We make doing stupid things illegal, as a matter of course.
Shall I give examples, or would you like to?

Are the Republicans, is any politician?

Ok, maybe a few are, when they start out. Eventually most seem to become part of the political grind. Then you got to support whatever your party's platform happens to be.
