I tried really hard to understand christianity. The conclusion I got is that christianity alone doesn't stand on it's own feet. Christianity needs other religions in order to make sense. I think burning the witches is disgusting. It's high time christianity embrace pagan religions (especially dharmic), in my opinion. When christianity stops saying it's the only ''truth'', the world will be a better place.
I think religion is more about dealing with feelings and the unconscious mind than it is about "truth". Since we have very little direct control over either, religion is a mechanism which allows some external control over how we feel and provides a framework for our unconscious mind.
I wonder that as we find ourselves looking to new beliefs, whether it's because our unconscious mind is getting a bit unruly within it's previous framework.
