Kind of my question too, what White culture?
Unfortunately wasn't able to watch the video. :(

"White" culture.

Racist.
Racist.
Racist.

Oh, not that 'white culture' is racist.
Claiming that "White" (as a skin color) is a separate culture is racist.

But hey....only 'white' people CAN be racist, didn't you know? It doesn't matter what you say about anybody else, if you have enough melanin in your skin to to out in the sun without SPF 3000, it can't be racist.

I actually had someone say that to me once: only 'white' people can be racist.

This woman, whose daughter was killed by someone she claims was trying to kill a black person supporting 'Black Lives Matter." She claims that SHE has this special platform because white women are given more opportunities to speak out than anybody else; Jewish mothers lose children, she claims, Muslim women lose children, but nobody pays attention to THEM. That's when I quit watching. What a bunch of politically correct blather. People pay attention to her because she apologizes for being 'white' and that makes everybody who hates 'white culture' like her.

What the heck IS 'White" culture?

I think...from the many people who talk about it, 'white' culture is that list of negative attributes that one simply does not like about other people, and assigning a skin color to that list. Call it a 'culture,' and then....if one IS 'white' (as the woman in the video is) one can apologize for it.

Personally, I have no idea what 'white culture' is. Or is supposed to be....and what would happen to me if I were to be so stupid as to claim that there is a 'black culture' that everybody with dark skin subscribes to?

You know that thing that makes whites from Bible belt USA, pretty much the same as Athenians, and makes those from Moscow just like those from Liverpool.

Whiteness is hard to define, but apparently it involves lots of vegetables, alcohol and the arts – and names like Yoder
What is white culture, exactly? Here's what the stats say

So vegetables, check. Alcohol, check. Art, negative. Last name Yoder, negative.

Actually my Mom's maiden name is a common Jewish name. My White identity might be in jeopardy.

Heather Heyer's mom explains her privilege to Ocasio-Cortez - CNN Video

Any and all sincere comments and discussion welcome.

Actually the discussion was about white supremacy (if anyone cared to listen to the video), and acknowledging that there are other persons of color who lose children and who do not have a voice to speak out on their pain but she in turn recognizing her privilege, is given a platform to speak out against racism despite losing a child just like other minority families who don’t have a platform to speak out and that we ought to take a more active stance on racism. But nice bait tho.

Yeah, that idea was out within the first minute. Made me so mad I stopped watching. She claimed that she had a platform because she was 'white' and nobody else had such a platform?

Balderdash. She has a platform...not because she is 'white,' but because she is apologizing for BEING 'white.' As if one is responsible for one's own melanin quotient. She's got a platform because her opinions tickle the ears of her listeners...and frankly? Those listeners are as racist as any good ol' southerner looking to lynch the 'N****" Only the target changed.

But the thing is, SHE is being racist herself; very racist. SHE is claiming special privilege because of her skin color; trust me, only those who feel superior to others apologize for that which makes them 'superior.' As in...she is 'voluntarily giving up' her special status. Because she's 'White' and can do that. She's using her daughter's death to manipulate the listeners, so that they will say 'look how special this woman is, giving up her "white privilege" so she can come down and be just like the rest of us."

Very condescending in the worst meaning of the word.

The whole thing makes me cringe.

................and I'll bet you anything you like that this woman would be very much against one of her kids marrying someone who isn't from her background, skin color or political opinions.

I think maybe I should apologize for my white, Kraut, Limey, Frog heritage. German, British and french, what could be more deplorable?:D

Think about that one for a minute.

Of course there are light complected people who are racist. However, that isn't because they have light complexions....OR that they are 'right wing."

In fact, in my experience, the most racist white folks are the liberal left who condescend to 'people of color."

They pretend to be 'for' minorities even as they do their level best to separate them from one another, and from themselves. (shrug)

Nobody has made that claim.

They have only claimed that white folk are not the only racist.

Which is a true statement. I tried dating a Korean girl once and her Father forbid it because he wouldn't have a white man date his daughter.

Black supremacy - Wikipedia is indeed as real as white supremacy. It's even been confirmed by the SPLC.

Here in the good old USA, racism very much exists, but it's not just one side that does this. When I worked at a Boy's Club in Kalamazoo, Michigan back in the 1960's, the two directors, both black, were as racist as the day was long, often stereotyping whites.

Within my wife's and my extended families, many are racist-- probably over half. One irony is that my wife is from Italy, and more of her relatives are racist than mine (Heinz 57), and yet Italians suffered from much discrimination back in the early to mid-1900's especially. BTW, both my parents were very anti-Italian and anti-Catholic, so imagine their chagrin when I decided to marry my Italian-Catholic girlfriend 52 years ago.

Can you share what you think "white culture" is, and what you think is wrong with it?

White culture consists of those individuals who would identify as of the white race and who live in a predominantly white population both currently and historically through the generations of their ancestors.

I agree that if you self-identify as "white" that that is inherently somewhat racist because the whole idea of identifying people of different ethnic origins as "white" or "colored" was, historically, to create a class of individuals who were looking out for their own economic advantage.

Everyone exists in a culture. Everyone, IMO, is susceptible to being racist. So yes it should be identified that "white culture" is not inherently racist but in many countries "white culture" is racially unaware not due to experience but due to naivete. Being ignorant doesn't shield you from being effectively racist. You cannot abdicate personal responsibility for cultural conditions completely. Once you become aware of an experience that is a product of one's own culture one then takes on the burden of addressing the consequences of that experience to the extent that one has a sense of moral responsibility to human beings who are from a different cultural background.

I heard no apologies...I think that you are reading into that video. People don't want white people to apologize, they want them to listen and empathize and act. To say otherwise is to defend one's self from the moral imperative that we are always in a position to need to listen, to empathize and to grow in our knowledge and to recognize that without intending to what we might have done for generations is not kind and is even hurtful to some people.

No one's asking anyone to be perfect, just be open to listening, changing and growing.

And when one culture is in power and effectively has preferential access to resources even if it is based on an individual, unconscious choice on the part of someone, then that is obviously going to be something that gets the most "guff" when those who have suffered have achieved enough safety to speak up about that suffering.

Well, I see what she was speaking about was three things by implication: the racism of white supremists, the non-racism of white culture and the anti-racism that white culture needs to adopt to counter white supremicism.

Oh? I couldda sworn that the White Saviour Industrial
Complex is made up entirely of upper class white folks
who are way too wonderful to have anything of a
racial thought at all toward the little brown, and
black people.
