The Second Coming

The eternal Tao cannot be told - Tao Te Ching
Mark 13:24-27
"But int those days, after the suffering, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heaven will be shaken.
Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. Then he will send out his angels, and gather his elect from the four winds, From the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven."

The last time this happened was the extinction of the dinosaurs. So, the Son of Man plans to set up his kingdom on a desolate earth, devoid of humans.

Only if the Author of Bible meant those signs to be interpreted literally.

Poetic license.. not intended to be taken literally.

While I am a Preterist (Thanks form the link), this would imply the author was pointing at Petronius. Then there is the problem of the falling stars.
My point was that the common interpretation is absurd.

Not devoid, just sparse:

Isaiah 10:17-19 The light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. (18) He will consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body. It will be as when a standard bearer faints. (19) The remnant of the trees of his forest shall be few, so that a child could write their number.

Isaiah 13:12 I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.

Revelation 14:1 I saw, and behold, the Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with him a number, one hundred forty-four thousand (Revelation 7:4-8), having his name, and the name of his Father, written on their foreheads.

In my opinion. :innocent:

The sun, moon and stars are intended to shine day and night. In the case above, the people intended, will have no light. There will be only darkness and sorrow.

Not so. The great multitude will be brought through Har-mageddon on earth. Proverbs 2:21-22,, Matthew 24:22) -- 1914 Jesus sat on his throne( he receives his crown)-Revelation 6 occurred. Peace was taken from the earth. These last days are far along.

I believe there is no evidence to suggest the interpretation should not be literal.
Well, the stars can't find place on earth if they fall! Moreover, what's the point that God makes the stars fall on earth to damage it, especially just when Christ returns! Same as darkening the sun and the moon! What benefit does it have to darken them!

If "they will see", then one must assume that there is someone left to see. Plus the "elect" will have to be risen from the dead, and will be among those who reign on the earth (Revelation 20:4). As for Israel, there will be a "remnant". As for your everyday "Christian", who have the mark of the beast, they will have prayed for their own death (Revelation 9:6) & (Revelation 14:10).

I believe that may be a mistranslation and heavenly bodies which would include asteroids would fit. Asteroids can fall to earth and we get pieces falling all the time but this is a major even so it must be multiple pieces and bigger ones than the ones we know now.

I believe there is no evidence that Jesus permanently returns and Revelation depicts Jesus back in the sky after coming to earth.

I believe the scripture says those are signs so that is their function.

Isaiah 10 is about the prophet picturing the Assyrian power as a forest consumed like thistles and briers by the fire of God.

I believe you are having a dispensation problem again. Jesus did not exist when Isa 10 was written so your response does not relate at all with Rev 14.

Isaiah lived 800 years before Christ.. The Scofield Bible was written to promote Christian Zionism.

The Jews were divided.. Some colluded with the Romans, others had become Hellenized... The zealots who were fighting Roman occupation considered them apostate.

The followers of Jesus left before the tribulation and went to Pella.
