Similarities between Islam and Hinduism

In the UK I was watching a program in which pupils from a White school and Muslim school did an exchange. From what I can see there are some similarities between Islam and Sikhism:

1. Arranged marriages (or introduction marriage)
2. No marriage to non-Muslims/Hindus
3. No marriage to people from different races/ regions

Anything else?

In India the Hindus do honour killings although this is more a village thing. We know this happens in Muslim countries too

Interestingly the one man for one woman view of marriage is stronger for Hindus
regarding God's declaration that 'the two shall be one flesh'

Means nothing. Sicilians do honor killings. In the Sicilian language it’s called “vendetta”. As with languages there are similarities due to close contact... word borrowing and grammar. There are similarities between birds and bats, between chimpanzees and humans, but the similarities are only superficial. If the goal is to show that all religions are the same, it fails epically.

Clearly major religious differ in many fundamental key ways and so I find myself in agreement. They should not be papered over.

My goodness, what huge overgeneralising! Arranged marriages are slowly disappearing. I know lots of Hindu/Muslim/Christian/agnostic joint marriages. I also know lots of inter-racial marriages from both communities.

Sure, some people retain village mentality, but that happens in all cultures.

You need to get out more ... just sayin'

It's more my father's side of the family as they're older; half my father's siblings were born before World War 2 ended and my Grandparents were born during World War 1 but they moved to Africa so didn't experience the partition of India.

My sister married a white guy, my Mum's brother (now 53 years old) was married to an American born Korean. Mum's cousin married a Sunni Muslim. A distant relative married a Chinese lady.

It was a huge deal when my paternal Uncle married a Punjabi despite both being Hindu.

I'd LOVE to marry a Sikh or Chinese girl- I think the former is better as i'll get Punjabi food

Honor killings have happened in Christianity as well.

Things change. That is the way of the world. We married our son to a Punjabi girl with Sikh connections.

Chinese food is supposed to be healthier and more varied, otherwise you will get Roti and Dal Makhani all your life.
