If Unemployment Is So Low Then Why Don't I Feel Better?

"Today, the BLS announced that March nonfarm payroll employment increased by 263,000 and that unemployment fell to 3.6%.

This exceeded already high expectations of 210,000. The optimism was in part a function of the ADP Employment Report that had been released earlier in the week, which indicated that private-sector employers had added 275,000 (the forecast had been 180,000). Economists had actually cautioned that this was likely an overstatement of the true situation, but it was difficult not to take it as a positive sign.

With U.S. unemployment so low and the current expansion approaching record length, many have asked why this doesn’t feel like a better economy. It’s certainly an improvement over what prevailed a decade ago, but the 1990s this ain’t. There are a number of reasons why this is the case:"

From people I know, that's also anecdotally true. One friend lost a high paying job and now works two jobs and is not back to what she made earlier. Her husband has medical issues and the horror show that is our medical system preys on her as well as does the health of her children who have the same genetic-based illness her husband suffers from.

Add to that the knowledge that megacorporations pay zero taxes and the wealthy have great ways of avoiding paying their fair share while she's being soaked and she has another reason for unhappiness.

There's a couple years of lag on the hard data, but I'd be shocked to learn that suicide rates aren't up. It's rough out here. And I'm sure as **** that the crowing by the Trumpettes about how wonderful everything is and how much better off we all are doesn't put desperate people in a constructive or healthy state of mind.

I would say spend more time at a job than posting of forums; then your stress level would go down and you would feel better.:D
Also suggest you spend less time watching/reading/thinking about political issues and that would help.:D

I would say stop avoiding inconvenient facts.
If you can't cope with the facts in the article, no one's making you participate in the thread.

Economic News Releases : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Forbes article cuts material out of the government link above. I suggest those interested in learning the whole picture rather than buying the latest anti-Trumper propaganda take the time to read that link.
Some excerpts from the government link:

Real Earnings
Real average hourly earnings decreased 0.3 percent over the month in March, seasonally adjusted. Average hourly earnings increased 0.1 percent and CPI-U increased 0.4 percent. Real average weekly earnings were unchanged over the month.

JOB OPENINGS AND LABOR TURNOVER – FEBRUARY 2019
Net Change in Employment Large numbers of hires and separations occur every month throughout the business cycle. Net employment change results from the relationship between hires and separations. When the number of hires exceeds the number of separations, employment rises, even if the hires level is steady or declining. Conversely, when the number of hires is less than the number of separations, employment declines, even if the hires level is steady or rising. Over the 12 months ending in February, hires totaled 69.3 million and separations totaled 66.6 million, yielding a net employment gain of 2.7 million. These totals include workers who may have been hired and separated more than once during the year.

*The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey results for March 2019 are scheduled to be released on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. (EDT).

People probably aren't feeling any better because we have a massive student debt crisis that is probably going to burst in a few years. Homeownership and marriages are down because millennials quite simply can't afford those two things on top of crippling student loan debt that can take more than a decade to pay off. Add to that what has already been pointed out by predatory practices of health care and pharmaceutical companies, and even with an improved job market, things will still be rough for many people due to what their paychecks have to go towards.

Not to mention the rise of the "gig economy". Two part time jobs don't give the stability of a single full time job, if you want stuff like, you know, a basic credit rating.

Do you remember the Wikileaks posting that appeared some years ago? The DNC paid Internet Trolls to work on its behalf and against those challenging Hillary in the campaign for President?
WikiLeaks - Search the DNC email database

There is also information out there that claims Russia pays Trolls to post on forums as Pro-Trump.
What would the Left do without their beloved Red Menace go-to?

The point being, with the latest Hillary effort now overcome, that would be the Mueller report not showing what she wanted, i.e. Russia collusion, are we to seriously think the DNC she bought out of debt and largely controls now is not her creature still? Especially when the right wing Christian community helped elect Donald Trump in 2016.

The student debt crisis, yes.

Wait till a critical mass figures it out that
they have been had.
State Universities are the economic engine
of their towns. Wanna find the campus?
Look for cranes.
Students are bars of pig iron!!
Industrial commodities!

Lotsa jobs now. I went into an Asian store
today where they dont know me, dressed in
jeans and they offered me a job!! I could buy their
store and give it to Goodwill!

But you dont need a college degree for that
kind of work.

Wait till enough find that out and cant even
make their monthly payment.

I believe that the economics , which suits most Americans fine and dandy today, might not be as suitable for most Americans within ten years. Imo, many jobs now done by humans will be replaced with automation. This is why starting by 2025, I'd like to see a universal basic income benefit of $1,000/month for each American who is presently a non-recipient of social security and who would then be between the ages of 18 and 65. This broad based economic benefit system would replace the current welfare system for particular needy people. Also by then, I'd favor an expansion of Medicare Part A and Part B from medicare insurance for seniors only to universal health insurance for every American citizen. This universal basic income benefit system and Medicare-for-all universal health care insurance could be well funded by a VAT system at a rate of 10 percent along with modest income tax and excise tax increases.

I think this guyś conclusions are wrong, and as soon as I find a study I read last week to prove it, I will post it.

His conclusions re the job participation rate is completely misleading.

Included in that rate who aren´t looking for a job are stay at home moms/dads, retirees, non working college students, the disabled, and anyone who for whatever reason, chooses not to work.

Wage growth is not stagnant, That is simply not true. It was true a year ago, but in fact in the area of earners in the area of 25,000 - 100,000 dollars per year, wage growth is up 3%

I guess we will be seeing more and more of this until 2020, the democrats know their candidates are lackluster and have little to offer. To offset this lack of talent, leadership, and realistic vision they are doing the only thing they can and that is to attempt to tear down their opposition.
