Why has there never been a documentary on Mohammad

Eum.... there have been plenty of movies with actors acting the role of Jesus. And he's not just a messenger, he's supposed to be god himself.

Are you saying they don't "respect" Jesus?

I think our culture needs to be respected too, and in our culture, we do movies, plays, etc.

...Telling us we can't is disrespectful.

It was a figure of speech. It was meant to say that someone who is a religious observant of Judaism and who is a movie director (this is hypothetical scenario) may not portray the likeness of their prophet via an actor in a movie. Similarly, a a person who is an observant Muslim may not portray the likeness of Muhammad via an actor.

But a part of the movie industry in the United States respects other cultures, period. This is why we don't make large movies of figures that can cause global controversies. Christians can cross those boundaries of portraying religious figures but observant Jews and Muslims don't.

Is it historically accurate to portray Jesus as Jim Cavizel or Moses as Christian Bale? I think when you "white wash" Biblical prophets to fit some ethnic narrative you're taking away the core message of their significance because now you are trying to relate that specific prophet to a specific demographic in the audience.

I'ld go even further then that.

I am under no obligations whatsoever that I "have" to respect ideas or religions or ideologies. Or even people, for that matter.

Respect is something that is earned, not granted by default.

No. The reason is not "respect". The reason is money and security.
There are countless upon countless examples of movies, series, etc, where people or even entire cultures or ethnicities are ridiculed or just factually depicted. When "respect" becomes selective like that, it usually means that other factors are at play.

Christians can cross those boundaries of portraying religious figures but observant Jews and Muslims don't.

Then Jews and Muslims can decide for themselves that they won't cross whatever arbitrary boundaries are defined by whomever. Why should the arbitrary religious boundaries of Jews or Muslims apply to me, who's neither a jew nor a muslim?

Is it historically accurate to portray Jesus as Jim Cavizel or Moses as Christian Bale?

Why would that matter?
Is Jesus in the Passion historically accurate?
How about Jesus in South Park?
Or Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar?
What harm is caused by any of these three being made or watched?

I think when you "white wash" Biblical prophets to fit some ethnic narrative you're taking away the core message of their significance because now you are trying to relate that specific prophet to a specific demographic in the audience.
Significance? That's completely subjective.

The Message (1976 film) This left Muhammad's uncle Hamza ( Anthony Quinn) and his adopted son Zayd ( Damien Thomas) as the central characters. During the battles of Badr and Uhud depicted in the movie, Hamza was in nominal command, even though the actual fighting was led by Muhammad.

I am sure that was not the intent, but the 1976 movie ends up showing how casually truth is distorted in order to protect dogmatism and the perception of Muhammad as an ineffable being as opposed to a true human.

So much destructive waste.

So you have seen the movie?

I never knew that king Khalid helped with the financing.

At least they would have shed light on something. It gives meaning to life.

If I had the resources, I would do it.

I suppose Charlie Hebdo didnt mean much to americans.

On 7 January 2015 at about 11:30 local time, two brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, forced their way into the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Armed with rifles and other weapons, they killed 12 people and injured 11 others.

Why? For printing images of mohammad

I wish there was a documentary on History Channel that showed how Mohammad the Islamic Prophet lived. I would like to see the details of how he went about his life, with accurate and most likely historical detail.

...Does anyone else wish they could see this? Maybe in a 3 or 4 part series..?

Why not do it?

Any author who does not portray Mohammad favorably will be looking at negative reactions from his Muslim followers. If one wants to know if a prophet is good or false, look at their fruits (Matthew 7:15-20). Are Muslim's a religion of peace, as they state, or a religion of war and blood, as their historic actions portray?

Ayatollah Khomeini, the First Supreme Leader of Iran, issued the fatwa against Rushdie on charges of blasphemy for his novel The Satanic Verses on 15 February, 1989. The Ayatollah called for the death of the book's author along with anyone "involved in its publication".

I'd like to see it, but regret the production team would get martyred! Think about it...

Oh, it meant a lot to me. I discussed it for over a week when it happened on various threads.
