ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi may have appeared for the first time in five years - CNN

There have been some doubts about the authenticity of the video, but it's very clearly him not just from the appearance but also the voice if you know Arabic. I have not been able to find the full video, only snippets (Fox News says the full thing is 18 minutes long) on Arabic Twitter and elsewhere, but I will update If I can.

The video is given the title "In the Hospitality of the Amir of the Believers" (في ضيافة أمير المؤمنين؟).

This is very important. What Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi currently looks like is crucial intelligence. And most news outlets have been very reluctant to show much of the actual video, which is in Arabic and would only reach a small audience in the West anyway. I could only find the full thing from ISIS-supporter Twitter accounts, which I have decided not to link to for obvious reasons. It can be found easily on Twitter with searches in Arabic though.

Neither do 99.99% of the people on earth. As long as the intelligence agencies see it, that is sufficient.

So you think the fact (and proof) that the most notorious terrorist of our age is still alive despite multiple claims of him being killed should be suppressed knowledge?

There's a distinction between disproportionately promoting news stories and hiding information from the general public. The less secret information intelligence agencies have, the better.

I hope it is likely that those who could track him down and send a drone to him had this information for a while before us. There are those, and not a few, who think this man is a hero, so much that with his people he might not even need to hide. Allah SWT knows.

I doubt it. The video was obviously made very recently. Al-Baghdadi talks about the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka and various other recent events. I don't think anyone external knew of it before today. That's a very narrow time frame.

And so did the Americans several other times. I personally won't believe it until I see a photo of his corpse the likes of that of al-Zarqawi. But of course we'll never get that.
