SO what do Jewish folks celebrate on Easter just passover? I'm sure my sister knows she a Messianic Christian. They don't celebrate Easter right? Its pagan Peter rabbit the easter eggs all that has its origins in Paganism? Theres a holuday for Pagans too Spring Equinox? OS it all related the Equinox and Easter ?

Don't Christians also celebrate or recognize friday before Sunday when Jesus was in the grave? Those who have good knowledge please explain????????? Good Friday.O have read it was impossible for Jesus to have been burrried in the tomb on Friday night because it was against the Jewish laws concerning Shabot the sabbath which makes the crucifixion kind of not possible.........does anyone have issues with that as well???????

I celebrate passover, not Easter. No bunny rabbits, or sunrise service for me. Don't really care about the rest of the mumbo jumbo.

I'm sure some do, but not being Jewish it holds no significance to me personally.

All Christians do not celebrate Christmas or Easter, although most probably do
by celebrate I would consider them commemorations and a matter of conscience not compulsion.

The Christian commemoration of Easter is trying to remember the Passover week leading to the death and resurrection. The last supper being a passover meal. The new Testament says "Christ is our Passover" and so all Christians celebrate the Passover through faith in Christ ultimately and some do it by commemorating Easter...

... but not in the way Rabbinic Judaism does... for the most part
and in any case it is the New Testament not Jews for Jesus who came up with "Christ is our Passover" so that would be a basic Christian belief or should be

There is a connection. The passover psalms are traditionally psalms 113 through 118.

The prelude to the passover psalms is (in part)
First, the Judas story in Psalm 109 where the Judas persecutes a poor man
Second, the poor man made like Melchizekek in Psalm 110

and the final Psalm is
Psalm 118 where 'the stone the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
The builders would represent the Jewish leaders of the day
The stone would be Jesus

It's the story of Jesus, really.

Jews won't touch Easter and neither should Christians. It has nothing to do with either faith.

A "Messianic Christian"? What on earth is that? I have heard of "Messianic Jews" who accept Jesus as Messiah but refuse to be called "Christians"....not wanting to be associated with Christendom....I don't blame them.

The entire celebration was grafted onto the "last supper" and pretends to be Christian but even the name Easter is the name of the fertility goddess who was worshipped around the time of the Spring equinox. They can't claim it isn't pagan when they did not even remove the name of the foreign deity and kept her fertility emblems (rabbits chickens and eggs)*** mod edit*** Its all about the chocolate. Jesus was never part of that pagan festival.

For Christians, the Passover was replaced by the commemoration of the "Last Supper". Jesus instituted the memorial of his death on Passover night of Nisan 14 and the Passover was always held annually on the correct date, rather than the correct day. If Nisan 14 fell on a Wednesday, then the Passover was held on a Wednesday. Anniversaries are pretty insignificant unless you observe them on the right day and date.

This year the observance of the Lord's Supper falls on a Friday, after Sundown. The Jewish day began at sundown and finished at sundown the following day.

Nisan 14 of 33 CE began at sundown Thursday evening and Jesus used the bread and wine at the Passover observance to institute the New Covenant with his apostles. He died around 3PM the next day (still Nisan 14)
(Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:24-26)

O have read it was impossible for Jesus to have been burrried in the tomb on Friday night because it was against the Jewish laws concerning Shabot the sabbath which makes the crucifixion kind of not possible.........does anyone have issues with that as well???????

No, it was not possible to have enough time to prepare his body for a proper Jewish burial before sundown on Nisan 14 because Nisan 15 was a Sabbath. They washed his badly beaten body and laid him in the tomb with the full intention of completing his burial preparation once the sabbath was over (Sunday morning). But as it turned out, that was not necessary.

I understand Jewish people wanting to distance themselves from "Christians". It's a sad and bitter history.

And those who still retain that Jewish pride and identity as Jews who accept Christ as Messiah, will never say that they are "Christians".

In the eyes of the orthodox, Messianic Jews can never be real Jews. In the eyes of "Christians" they will never be seen as "real" Christians either. Stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Well I would disagree with the Christian part. Me and all of my sisters have supported my sister Carolyn through everything all the Holidays she tells us about we dont know about through her snubbing her nose up at Christian holidays calling them Pagan and so forth. My oldest Baptist sister has done quite abit to support her decisions as Judeo Christian Messianic Jew......

I was actually speaking more generally....I'm sure your family are doing their best to keep the peace. It very difficult when families are religiously divided.

It is not surprising that America tenaciously supports Israel though. They see a prophesy in the Bible and assume that if they 'hang on to the skirt of a Jew', that they will win favour with God. (Zechariah 8:23) That is a complete misinterpretation of scripture in my view.

The literal nation of Israel do not have any more of God's favour than any other nation of blood spillers. (Isaiah 1:15)

We all have choices about what to believe and we will choose those beliefs as our own hearts dictate for our own reasons.

Jesus is the judge thankfully.

Passover for Christians is the Passover of the Lord, for Catholics this is celebrated on Holy Saturday night, and is the holiest night of the year.

Bible tells also that Jesus will rise on third day and it was Sunday. That is why the day of burial was not Friday or Saturday.

Conflating Pascha with Eostre was a way of making Christianity supplant Paganism, just as was done with Christmas. Christmas includes at least two Pagan/Heathen seasonal celebrations.
