There are a bunch of self-proclaimed around. Occasionally, one drops by here. While I'm open to the possibility, I am extremely disinclined to believe in the current crop.

Could you expand on what you consider a prophecy to be? What a prophet is? Different religious traditions handle this topic quite dissimilarly. I mean, in a sense, any and all probabilistic models are prophecies and statisticians are prophets.
Topic needs some clarifying. I think many in religion "believe" that prophets are sooth Sayers, and futurists! Why the world is filled with that class of individual independent of religion. Most that dress up in that clothing and pretend are sociopaths, self deluded, or SITH in star wars lingo, all the same thing . I think that is what Walter is alluding to.

Carl Sagan in his old TV program, which I believe was called “The Cosmos”, speculated that a two dimensional being having length and breadth would experience his world as a one dimensional world.
Having only length and breadth and no height, it would not be able to look down on any two dimensional object in its world and would only see a line which would appear to be the length of the object, irrelevant as to which direction it was seeing that object from. Unless the two dimensional being was lifted up by some unseen force, it would never know that the objects in its world had breadth as well as length.
When referring to the fourth dimension I am speaking of the Minkowskian notion of time as being the fourth dimension. As in the fact that we can move forward and backward, [0ne dimension] sideways, [Two dimensions] up and down [Three dimensions] and through time; [Four dimensions] and not that which is called 4- dimension Euclidean space.
We are fourth dimensional beings, who are able to mentally traverse time and yet we experience our world as a three dimensional world. We are fourth dimensional beings, who, in a state of deep meditation or hypnosis, are able to descend into our inner most being where space and time are as one, and relive memories back to and beyond our own birth, and there, we are able to merge with a living mind of our past [Who we once were] and experience the life and times of our living ancestor.

That person is seen as a prophet when speaking of a giant grasshopper that spits fire from its tail, with wings above its head that sound like the roaring of a mighty waterfall, in his attempt to describe a Black Hawk helicopter as seen in a vision while merged with the future mind.
Has anyone here ever received a visitation from 'The Son of Man' who is born from the body of manking in our future? Many prophets of the past have.

What is a Prophet?
Many people today think of a prophet as any person who sees the future. While the gift of prophecy certainly includes the ability to see the future, a prophet is far more than just a person with that ability.
A prophet is basically a spokesman for G-d, a person chosen by G-d to speak to people on G-d's behalf and convey a message or teaching. Prophets were role models of holiness, scholarship and closeness to G-d. They set the standards for the entire community.
The Hebrew word for a prophet, navi (Nun-Beit-Yod-Alef) comes from the term niv sefatayim meaning "fruit of the lips," which emphasizes the prophet's role as a speaker.
The Talmud teaches that there were hundreds of thousands of prophets: twice as many as the number of people who left Egypt, which was 600,000.
But most of the prophets conveyed messages that were intended solely for their own generation and were not reported in scripture. Scripture identifies only 55 prophets of Israel.
A prophet is not necessarily a man. Scripture records the stories of seven female prophets, listed below, and the Talmud reports that Sarah's prophetic ability was superior to Abraham's.
A prophet is not necessarily a Jew. The Talmud reports that there were prophets among the gentiles (most notably Balaam, whose story is told in Numbers 22), although they were not as elevated as the prophets of Israel (as the story of Balaam demonstrates). Prophets anticipate the future. An interesting modern example is connected to the leaders of the Democrat party within the USA. They had a prophesy connected to President Trump and Russian collusion. There was no initial proof, to start the investigation, only a vision based on faith. This religious movement told hold by intrigue and was driving by anger and faith.
Interestingly, the Democrats tend to be anti-religious and closer to atheism than to theism; relative morality. This example shows that even atheists have prophesy, but for different ends. A long rational and legal investigation into the claims of the prophesy disproved the prophesy. However, the false prophets and their followers remain in a state of denial, trying to start again.
There is also another contemporary prophesy about the end of the world, connected to manmade global warming, A.K.A., climate change. In this prophesy, the polar caps and glaciers will melt, the lands will flooded, and there will be storms and various other disasters. It is sort of a new wave rendition of the classic end of times prophesy, where all humans need to repent, or face the consequences. In each generation, end of time prophesy appear applicable, and about to appear. Nuclear war was part of my generational end of times prophesy. It was a real then as global warming disasters are today.
This end of times prophesy is being brought to you by the same people who prophesied Trump and Russian collusion. Similar to a traditional end of time prophesy, applied to a generation, it went through a series of false alarm cycles, which do not pan out, only to be reintroduced again and again, using new and improved dead lines. It like it has a type of unconscious capacitance, that has to be expressed, before it finally ends.
The question becomes from wince do these psychological dynamics appear? The brain has pacer cells, which are neurons-like-cells, which pulsate. These pacers cells are used by the brain, like a metronome is used by a musician. They help keep time like a metronome does for music; real time and extended time. The time keeping pacer cells help to regulate hormone cycles and other things, such as the timed triggers for the stages of life.
Based on this time extrapolation foundation of the brain, the unconscious mind; inner self and firmware, can also use the pacer cell time platform to extrapolate memory and sensory data to the future. The problem is not the unconscious extrapolation, but the conscious translation of this output data. The unconscious extrapolation data is not 2-D; cause and affect, like reason. Data from the firmware and the inner self is 3-D and can even be up to 4-D. If 4-D output is reduced to 2-D, it can lose things in translation.
If I was to interpret the current times, in light of the two above Democrat prophesy, since manmade global warming prophesy came first, the heating of the earth, due to manmade causes, symbolized anticipated changes in the Democrat party psyche= the earth.
Manmade global warming symbolized something, done by humans, that will heat up the Democrat psyche, and lead to a type of melt down, followed by and other party wide disasters. The Manmade global warming prophesy anticipated the impact of the Swamp and the Trump-Russian collusion narrative/prophesy; made up by man, and who this would impact the Democrat wide party psyche.
This change had been building for decades; gradual heating. The party now has no old school moderates; cool long term reason; polar caps. Rather that ice; stability, has melted and now all they have is hot and more fluid; new ideas without a practical foundation, designed to induce hysteria. This is causing problems as the party divided and further alienates itself.
A prophet is not just someone who can consciously intercept the 3-D and 4-D time projection data from the unconscious psyche. It is also someone who can translate this data without loss. Various classes of prophets have do with the unconscious data stream; how far the unconscious attempt to project to the future.

Most prophesy is forthtelling not foretelling and most is after the fact.

If by "God" you intended to mean the one-god of the Abrahamic religions and no other gods, there ends what I can comment on with respect to prophets. Prophets tend to be a thing mainly in the Abrahamic religions anyway, as other religious traditions don't necessarily treat communication with the gods as some exclusive or special purview of people called such things.
With respect to that, pretty much any actively practicing contemporary Pagan or Polytheist is a "prophet" when they share their experiences of the gods. Many of us are cautious about speaking on the behalf of the gods - if they want to share a message with you, they'll deliver it themselves and then its your business to decide what it means - but on the whole it's pretty routine as far as our personal experiences go. What the gods communicate to us isn't necessarily within the realm of a "prophecy" per se, but the original meaning of the term "divination" is simply gathering information from divine sources. That information could be about anything - past, present, future.
But I doubt any of this is what the Abrahamics would be looking for when they seek modern day prophets, as their conception of it would be different. I hung out in the New Age community long enough a few years back that I noticed many of the "spiritual but not religious" Abrahamics being fairly open-minded about their god (or its messengers like angels) communicating with people. They wouldn't always dress it up in a fancy word like "prophet," but some of them would. Or rather, they had a curiously Pagan mentality that everyone can communicate with a deity should they open those paths in their minds and hearts. Like Pagans, none of these Christians are taken very seriously by the mainstream but all have the potential to found a new branch of Christianity with time.

I'm sure there are, but those aren't really my peeps. I don't keep up on what the various Abrahamics may or may not be saying about the supposed "end of the world" via people labeled as prophets. Apocalyptic mythology is certainly popular enough yet today, even among those who call themselves secular.

I too was a true believer that went went through the prophesied nuclear war age, and while all my own predictions based on the whatever the geopolitics were of the time have come to nought, I have not lost faith. I don't like to be put in the same category as the Dems, but I must admit I do that too. Even so, I will keep the faith in the prophecy that nuclear war is coming, but sorry I don't have a date...
