New Zealand Doesn't Hesitate to Ban Automatic Weapons

oldbadger

Skanky Old Mongrel!
You'd best be doin' away with knives there in
the land of the metro men. Even a quarter inch of
steel can be deadly.

LONDON (Reuters) - Two teenagers were killed in knife attacks in Britain over the weekend, bringing the number of people killed in stabbings this year to at least 24 and pushing the bloodshed to the forefront of national concern.
Yes.....
All political parties support new initiates to reduce and deter knife and other killings here.

But our knife murders in, say, London this year, dreadful as they are, have not yet reached your gun death per day rate of circa 85 !!!

What? Me worry?
Oh.
Right.
You just carry on with your circa 85 gun deaths per day, then

And all those school mass murders.

Whatever........

Went back and found your source. About 2/3 of these deaths are suicides. Just think how much more painful it would be for these 2/3's to commit suicide with a baseball bat, say.

As long as they're benevolent. All it takes is that particular leader someday to take charge.........

I like New Zealand but they're playing with fire if they have no safeguards against governmental tyranny.
Yes, because an AR-15 is a good match against Hellfire missiles. That argument for guns is totally stupid. The US government has nukes. There's no way you could take the US military on in a domestic civilian uprising. Or the government of any developed nation, really. This isn't the 18th century where everyone has one-shot muzzle loading rifles that take forever to fire.

It is far from inevitable that all such changes are for
the better.

That is what my post said.
however, clearly the constitution does not give scope for things to improve.
There is no reason to suppose that repeadly asking the same question will result in a different answer, unless a change in the constitution allows it.

Are you claiming that NZ's constitution protects the right to own such arms?
If so, are they amending it or overriding it by fiat?

In most commonwealth countries the constitution reflects current laws. If a law is changed so is the constitution.
The constitution is the sum of the law. Not a separate document.

Good for them! I wish our government cared about it's people enough to do that. Or was competent enough to do most anything, honestly.

For you sake I hope they never start taking steps to ban us from exercising our constitutional rights. If that were the case the present administration may ban you from making any criticism concerning your displeasure at him or his family. Or you could be forced to open your doors to any law enforcement authority at any given time and allow them to rifle (pun intended) through your things for absolutely no reason. Or you could be held in jail indefinitely at the whim of some low level official....you getting the pic yet?

I live in the U.S.. How many others live here?

With that said we would not live in the U.S. if not for armed citizens. Armed citizens are what made the American Revolution a success.

Somehow other Western nations that ban semi-autos haven't degenerated in such ways. We're actually further down the list of functioning democracies by experts. We're a corrupt, flawed democracy: These are the best democracies in the world — and the US barely makes the list
