I just read your religion and can't stop singing Ziggy Marley in my head

All my days I've been searching,
To find out what this life is worth
Through the books and bibles of time
I've made up my mind
I don't condemn, I don't convert,
This is a calling have you heard
Bring all the lovers to the fold,
'Cause no one is gonna lose their soul

Love is my religion,
Love is my religion,
Love is my religion
Hey you can take it or leave it,
And you don't have to believe it

I don't want to fight,
Hey let's go fly a kite
There's nothing that we can't cure,
And I'll keep you in my arms for sure
So don't let nobody stop us,
Free spirits have to soar
With you I share the gift,
The gift that we now know oh oh oh

Did you know, horror of horrors, that AOC is paying her entire staff a living wage. It's rampant communism and anti-American to pay people a decent wage. The American way is to pay the ones on the top very well indeed and shaft those on the bottom. What horror is next? Asking the rich to pay their fair share? Horrors.

'Fox & Friends' host says Ocasio-Cortez's staff salary plans 'socialism and communism on display' and many many other sources.
Problem is socialists only keep going down the ladder. When they can't tax the super rich anymore they tax the rich and when that's done they Go for the wealthy, then the rest of the middle class get it. Finally everyone is poor. Equality at last. What a success ...

Show me a socialist country that's a success and I'll show you a country that hasn't quite finished draining it's own wealth yet. Wait awhile ... You might be surprised how socialism can ruin a country. And it's a quicker death for a poorer country.

Someone doesn't understand the basic principles of socialism, I see.

Can you name any examples of this?

This is an example of "damned if you do". It doesn't matter if somebody points out to you an example of an objectively successful socialist country - you'll just assert that at some indeterminate point in the future, it will fail. That way, you never have to admit that your thinking may be wrong.

Also, how are we measuring success, exactly? I would hardly call a country in trillions of dollars of debt, that is responsible for multiple financial crises and has over 12% of its population living in poverty a "success".

And you think I do? Seriously? Why does the USA borrow money just to give it away? We not only have social welfare programs but we give foreign aid to many countries. The only reason we get away with it so far is because the world knows the strength and resilience of the American private sector. The economy. If not for that machine they would have been done with our borrowing (and never paying) ways.

So if you think the USA is a modern example of healthy capitalism think again. It's really a debt addicted zombie careening towards it 's own destruction. The American economy is impressive, but not invincible. It's fragile in my opinion. We've sold our soul to the central banking scam.

Getting your own country into trillions of debt is irresponsible to the point of treason. Good job republicans and democrats. :clapping:

Okay, so we've established that the USA isn't the benchmark for success. On that we can heartily agree.

So the question now is what does constitute a successful country?

It might seem unfair; yet it makes sense. I won't admit my thinking is wrong because it hasn't been disproven. So, it's not that I don't have to admit I might be wrong.

... which has nothing to do with the OP.

Can you name a successful socialist country?
Yes. Problem is "socialism" is a broad term, and whatever country I cite, you'll claim it isn't a REAL socialist country because of your a priori belief that all socialist countries are Stalinist wastelands, therefore any country that isn't a Stalinist wasteland can't be socialist, QED.

I'm pretty sure we've had this exact conversation before.

I think it is the US definition of socialism; it is different from what we mean in the UK and Europe.
In US socialism appears to be similar to communism.
To the tribal right, "socialism" doesn't really mean anything. It's a fairly generic boogeyman and epithet. Most people on the tribal right can't even explain what they think the term means in a consistent fashion, let alone how it applies to policy they claim to oppose. Hence all the strawmanning and context free outliers they point to. They don't know what it is, so they just point at Venezuela and say "See? That's because socialism!" Without a care about historical context. Always Venezuela, you'll notice, never Sweden.
