Seems like we have a new Representative with a chip on her shoulder.
You Dem's should be real proud of the direction your party is headed.

Rep. Ilhan Omar vs. Venezuela Envoy Elliott Abrams: Was El Salvador "Massacre" A "Fabulous Achievement?"
Given that Abrams was one of the architects of Reagan's programs that supported the dictatorships that carried out these sorts of massacres, and given that he is being considered for the position of Special Envoy to Venezuela, how is it out of line to question him about that history?

Because Omar said it wasn't a question.
Did you not watch the video?
Appears not.

Here's part of the exchange...

“More than 800 civilians, including children as young as two years old, were brutally murdered,” Omar told him. “During that massacre, some of those troops bragged about raping a 12-year-old girl before they killed her. You later said that the U.S. policy in El Salvador was a ‘fabulous achievement.’ Do you still think so?”

Next, she turned to Abrams’ role in whitewashing war crimes that were being carried out under the orders of Guatemalan leader Ríos Montt, who was later convicted of ordering genocide within his own country.

“Would you support an armed faction within Venezuela that engages in war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide if you believed they were serving US interests as you did in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua?” Omar asked.

Probably the bigger question is, why is a person with that history a special envoy to Venezuela?

The republicans need a war to distract us from that giant orange orangutan they must all obey, in the White House.

Sorry I got confused about which session I was trying to show. It should have been:

Omar began her questioning of Abrams by noting his involvement in the 1980s Iran-Contra Affair. He was accused of withholding information at the time but was later pardoned by President George H. W. Bush. Given that context, Omar wondered why Americans should consider anything Abrams says as "truthful."

“If I can respond to that,” Abrams responded.

“It wasn’t a question,” Omar replied.

"REP. ILHAN OMAR (D-MN): On February 8, 1982, you testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee about U.S. policy in El Salvador. In that hearing you dismissed as communist propaganda reports about the massacre in El Mozote in which more than 800 civilians, including children as young as two years old, were brutally murdered by U.S.-trained troops. "

In terms of central American communists, this film change my thinking on the subject:

That Abrams demonstrated a willingness and ability to lie a long time ago. And now Trump wants him to join his posse?

ETA ~Do you have a problem with elected officials holding people accountable for lying in the past?~

No, but I do have a problem with someone making a statement then not allowing that person to respond.

It's called a "rhetorical question." They may be asked, but they are asked without the intention of having them answered. Reagan, North, Abrams, they deliberately disobeyed Congress, lied about it, and tried to cover it up. Or, to put it in another historical context, concerning Watergate, why should we consider anything Nixon says as "truthful?"

Wait a minute.
Trump hires yet another guy whose main credentials are dishonesty, loyalty, and the ability to create conflict in other countries.
And your problem with this is a question from an elected official?

You don't think Omar was polite?

That's what you think is the big problem here?

How Deplorable.

Whatever you want me to be.
Hey remember when Trump used his master deal making skills and shut down the government for 35 days, costing the American economy 11 billion dollars, to pressure Congress to increase border fencing funding from 1.6 billion to 1.375 billion. . . wait a second. . . that is not an increase and, a -0.225 billion dollar gain for a 11 billion dollar loss is a really bad trade off. . . but I thought Trump had a really good brain and knew the art of the deal.
