What happened to embolden them?

Any persecution is a sad state of affairs. If major world religions are persecuted so, then one wonders about the smaller ones without international support fare.

To put it in perspective, 3,446 negroes were lynched in the U.S. between the years of 1882-1968 according to the Tuskegee University report on lynchings.
I think they also still burn witches alive in some parts of Africa as well.

Apparently, religion has become like gang affiliation.

I'm never sure about this stuff. 'Open Doors' is a Christian advocacy group. That basically means they advocate for Christians. So it's biased from the outset. I prefer more neutral international watchdogs like Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch. If a group goes into a country and breaks the laws there, and then calls it persecution, I'm more than a bit suspicious. If you found data from such an advocacy group that supported other religions besides their own, it would seem to be more neutral, and believable.

I think Boko Haram is against everyone except themselves, not just Christians.
