In the movie Frailty a widowed father raising two boys has a vision from God to kill present day demons. He encourages his sons to help him in this mission and it shows the lives of the two brothers growing up in this faith. Though this is a work of fiction the movie does bring up some interesting questions.
Why does God need us to murder in His name?
What are we to believe about a God that instructs His followers to kill?
If God came down and asked you to kill in His name, could you do it?

God as far as I know hasnt killing abyone in his name excatly but he has (according to the bible) has gave people the power to kill thire enemies, Isnt that the same thing?
If your an arms dealer & you sell weapons to people & they go out & kill 10,000
shouldnt you be held responseable? Didnt god ask someone to kill thire son has a sign of faith? No he didnt go though with it but he did command him too. There are some bible versus that make you wonder.

Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. (Jeremiah 48:10

& in Jeremiah 5-20-22 God commanded his people to kill everyone in Babylon.

also in second kings God commanded Elisha to go & kill 42 kids because they cursed Gods name.

Not true. What happened was, they made fun of the prophet's bald head, so he cursed them, and a bear came down and mauled them. Very inspiring story.

There are plenty of instances in the Bible when God did order people to kill others, though, and a few when he declared it a grievous sin not to kill every living thing in certain towns.

Sometimes, God sent an angel to kill people; the angel of death killed all the firstborn of Egypt on on occasion and 185,000 Assryian soldiers on another.

Instances of God killing people directly are rarer, but they do occur: for instance, he killed Onan for practicing coitus interruptus during sex with his brother's widow, and Uzzah for presuming to reach out to steady the Ark of the Covenant when it was shaken by oxen. Which ought to give you some sense of his priorities.

EDIT: Doh! I don't know how Noah's flood and the cities of the plain slipped my mind.

My faith involves me to believe that I am not to kill anyone; to kill is a sin.

Sometimes though, not to kill could be interpreted as the 'lesser sin'. I can actually use an example for this; though the killing was that of an animal (who, as far as I am concerned, have just as many rights to live as we human animals).

A neighbour heard a child screaming in the garden next door; a pit bull terrier (kept on a very long leash in a back garden of someone's house), had grabbed a baby out of a pram and was attacking it.

The neighbout, who was doing some DIY at the time, took one look, rushed to the dog and child, and hit the dog on the head with the hammer, as hard as he could.(for all of you who like happy endings, the child was -last time I heard- "seriously hurt, but stabilised")

I think that (or a similar situation but involving humans) is when killing is justified; when it is the 'lesser of two evils'.

as i understand it, God does not need us to murder in His name. He is the One who creates and takes all life- why would He need us little guys to take life for Him?

i believe that God is inclined to take the side of life- rather as Martin Luther King Jr. said that "the arch of the universe leans towards justice". so God leans towards His creation and its sustaining out of mercy and love.

i don't know why people feel a need to take life for God. but that also begs the question, is it God's will if someone kills another person (in faith or not)? there's the theory that all things that ahppen are God's will. which gets complicated when one considers murder, especially murder in the name of God.

hmm. any ideas?

i think that God did give them a way to survive but they took no note of the warning from noah that their was going to be a flood ,and the way to survive it was to get in the ark .......... but they took no note ...........

God loves, man kills.

Deuteronomy 32:39 - See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me:I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.
