So I'm trying to cut ties to cable. It must be hurting cable services because they are offering all kinds of discount to come back.
So I got Amazon Fire TV. Read some review that rated Fire TV as the best. It was pretty easy to install. Pretty easy to get working with my TV. Claims you can use voice to control other household appliance if you install the special controller for lights, AC, etc...
Said there was a problem with Youtube as there is an issue between Youtube and Amazon but I was able to download Firefox and get Youtube to work.
I can use Alexa to turn the TV on/off, raise/lower the volume. Select shows in Netflix and Amazon Prime. Unfortunately voice control doesn't seem to work with Firefox so Youtube you still have to use the remote to search.
Now I watch Youtube, Netflix and Amazon Prime. That's about it. My wife however, all she wants to watch is FOX news. So I go to FOX News, they have an app that opens it and allows you to watch live. Ask for a service provider but also had an option to skip which I did. I left my wife watching Shannon Bream. All was good. About an hour later, she come up stairs mad because the TV's not working. I go down stair, try about half and hour to get it to work and finally figure out they let you watch live for about an hour and then lock you out if you don't have a service provider.
So I spent most of the night trying to find a way to get Fox News on Fire TV.
I found that Sling TV offers it but you have to sign up for $20 and month. Wife said that's too expensive for just FOX News. Then I found FOX Nation for $5.99 a month. Said it was available on on your devices. So I signed up for a free week. Spent another several hours trying to get FOX Nation to work with Fire TV. Couldn't do it. I could browse to it, sign in but it would just take me back to Fire TV's home page no matter what I tried. Didn't get much sleep last night and finally gave up.
I suppose I'll have to try Sling TV. There's a free trial but there's no guarantee that will get me Fox News either. I'm expected to know all this since I work with computers all of the time but it sure gets frustrating trying to get all of the gadgets communicating and working like you want them too.
