Literally The Bible

The kids could've been lectured about being jerks. Instead, they were used as bear bait. I'm more curious why the bears bothered with killing 42 kids. Seems like it's out of character for a type of animal that can be scared off by yelling a lot. Maybe it's some more of that numerology crap?

To me, what's even more interesting right now is the lack of response to my OP by Christians or Jews. I figure the story is simply too embarrassing to explain. Not that I blame them from keeping away, but it's so unlike Christians not to take the opportunity to tell us non-believers where we got it wrong. That god did a very, very bad thing here. But, if they can't explain it away, they can't. ;)

Imagine if people acted like that on a regular basis? Who would be left?

Another stupid story for the stupid people who want to believe it.

I would think that you need to worry about the fire from the mouth (Revelation 11:5), and the fire, smoke and sulfur of Revelation 9:18, which will kill 1/3 of mankind. Your 42 are already dead, and resting in the ground. According to Revelation 9:5-6, you will apparently be praying to join them.

So, was the punishment just or not?

You know in the 70's I tried to be a Christian. It was the middle of the Jesus Movement in So California, ex-hippies had found Jesus, and there was Christian rock concerts every Saturday night. So much fun. I remember reading this story and the part of the brain that says, "Hey, God is cruel and not very loving", got turned off. 'Cause everybody knew that was just the devil trying to trick us into doubting how loving and just God is. God knows best, so those kids were bound to grow up to be sinners of the worst kind, non-believers. Yuck!

But, there was another explanation. 'Cause Christians had to come up with an answer when kids are killed in schools, or blown up in school busses or die of terrible diseases. That answer is the well known doctrine of the "Age of Accountability". The kids haven't reached the "Age of Accountability" yet. God does not send them hell. They go straight to heaven. Doesn't that make you feel better? No, you say? Well, I had doubts myself. I wondered... what if the kids were one day or a year older than whatever the "Age of Accountability" is?

To that Christians pretty much said that the kids are all going to hell. I asked a few more questions and my Christian friends then decided to lay hands on me and cast out the demon of doubt. After that, nothing in the Bible ever bothered me. It was like getting a spiritual lobotomy. Unfortunately, the spell, I mean the grace of God wore out one day and I've been sinning like crazy trying to catch up with lost time. Now, all these types of stories bother me.

It's totally amazing, just how people cherry pick verses in the bible, taking them out of their context.
There's nothing wrong, it just shows that those two people in the video like alot of people are illiterate no understanding what the bible confirm's/supports.

How were these verses taken out of context?

Yeah, a POE or not. Hmmmm. ;) In any case, the Bible story still stands as is.

.

The bible story does not stand as is,
not when a person takes one or two verses and try to build a river off a rain drop.
It simply shows how illiterate people really are when it comes to the bible.

So what is the story in 2 kings revealing, besides taking it out of it's context ?

This is the second time you have claimed those verses were taken out of context. How was this done? You do not seem to realize that when you make such a claim you put the burden of proof upon yourself to support that claim. If you continue to make it without answering you are tacitly admitting that those verses were not taken out of context.

Other than the fact that Elisha has god's ear, and god has no compunctions about killing 42 children for Elisha because they made fun of his baldness and told him to go away, I don't know. But here's the context, so you tell me what else is going on with the slaughter,

2 Kings 2:19-25
Elisha Makes the Water Good

19 The men of the city said to Elisha, “Sir, you can see this city is in a nice place, but the water is bad. That is why the land cannot grow crops.”

20 Elisha said, “Bring me a new bowl and put salt in it.”

They brought the bowl to Elisha. 21 Then he went out to the place where the water began flowing from the ground. Elisha threw the salt into the water and said, “The Lord said, ‘I am making this water pure! From now on this water will not cause any more death or keep the land from growing crops.’”

22 The water became pure and is still good today. It happened just as Elisha had said.

Some Boys Make Fun of Elisha
23 Elisha went from that city to Bethel. He was walking up the hill to the city, and some boys were coming down out of the city. They began making fun of him. They said, “Go away, you bald-headed man! Go away, you bald-headed man!”

24 Elisha looked back and saw them. He asked the Lord to cause bad things to happen to them. Then two bears came out of the forest and attacked the boys. There were 42 boys ripped apart by the bears.

25 Elisha left Bethel and went to Mount Carmel and from there he went back to Samaria.

The whole incident stands on its own.
