crossfire said:Lesbian Viking Metal band sings about kittens.
Well, that's pretty much what "sapphic" means, isn't it? Personally, I take greater issue with the word "viking" as used here.Curious as to why you find it relevant to call them "lesbian." Care to share?

In part, yes, although it does have other connotations.Well, that's pretty much what "sapphic" means, isn't it?
Okay, but just to be clear here, I'm not taking issue with crossfire. I'm just curious. And talking about the word "viking," how about the Minnesota Vikings Football Team. Do you take issue with their use of the name as well.Personally, I take greater issue with the word "viking" as used here.
In the context of a group of young ladies, though? In part, yes, although it does have other connotations.
I don't have a problem with sports teams named after things, that's a generally accepted thing, even if it's a fairly hyperbolic name. Crossfire seems to have a fuzzy idea of what a viking actually is, though, and it was him who called them that. I've spent a lot of time studying Scandinavian history, so mischarecterisation of Vikings is a bit of a pet hate of mine. Almost as much as people who refer to "coats of arms" as "family crests".Okay, but just to be clear here, I'm not taking issue with crossfire. I'm just curious. OK, then put imaginary "quote marks" around "Viking" in the title of the thread. Not necessarily in the context of a group of young ladies, but in the context of subject and music. Under the word "sapphic" the Merriam-Webster Dictionary says:In the context of a group of young ladies, though?
I acknowledge it's my issue. Don't mind me.OK, then put imaginary "quote marks" around "Viking" in the title of the thread. (Aren't the kittens cute?)
Does this band perform in sapphic verse, though? Not necessarily in the context of a group of young ladies, but in the context of subject and music. Under the word "sapphic" the Merriam-Webster Dictionary says:
"The poet Sappho wrote poems of self-reflection but also of passion."
"They were written in an original rhythmical pattern, which has become known as sapphic verse."

Don't have the faintest idea.Does this band perform in sapphic verse, though?
I think it was Viking metal I once heard described as "sounding like hitting a metal garbage bin with an axe"."Viking Metal" is a music genre name used since at least the 90s...
(albeit the border between it and Pagan Metal, Folk Metal etc. are quite fuzzy from my impression.)
The music of this band is not what is normally referred to as Viking (or Pagan etc.) Metal. Seems rather like Hard Rock or Heavy Metal with perhaps some Thrash Metal influence. Not like I'm good at determining genres, though.
And I don't see how wearing antlers would make one associated with vikings.
There are some women wearing antlers that actually have genuine talent.....It would have sounded better if they'd let the kittens play the instruments and sing.
That was great. (It's not exactly the thing that evokes belly laughs, though.)There are some women wearing antlers that actually have genuine talent.....
True. I became impressed with the genreThat was great. (It's not exactly the thing that evokes belly laughs, though.)
