If doing laundry would constitute as a defilement of the sabbaath...then I'm guilty as charged.

Although, my views of the Sabaath Day are a bit different than some Christians. I don't believe that Sunday is any more special than any other day of the week. We choose to have formal worship on Sunday.

Why do you think the Sabbath Day and Sunday are synonyms?

Me?

Possibly because I've been taught that by my sunday school teachers who in turn have gotten that from the Prophets of our Church.

I don't necessarily feel that the Sabbath day refers anymore to ONE particular day out of the week...

Not your average Mormon
By saying that all days are holy, no day is holy. The Lord set aside one day as a day of rest and I believe we should do the same, to the degree possible. There's always that old ox in the mire thing, but I believe that six days a week is enough time to go shopping, to movies, sporting events, etc.

(the 7th day of the week is saturday not sunday, sunday is the 1st day of the week..)

No offense - but if it didn't, why the commandment?

Greetings!

No, I do not keep the Sabbath.

As a Bahai, I believe that is a social law superseded millenia ago, and indeed beleve that EVERY day should be valued, honored, and made as holy as possible!

Best, :)

I agree (but only because it's a let out clause for me!). I don't go to Church, partly because I have no one to go with, but partly because I just don't feel 'happy' inside our local church. I used to sing there in the choir, and had to leave because there was a lot of back stabbing going on (amongst the old timers).

Mind you, I was 'Talking to God ' most of the morning........while doing the cleaning. My wife and son were out, so I can get my work done.

The above article breaks it down far more eloquently than I can and references quite a bit of scripture.

This is what bothers me about the article

I believe that the entire Mosaic Law, including the Decalogue, has been superseded for the Christian by the law of Christ

So, the commandments don't count?

If we don't have to keep the sabbath day holy - why do we go to Church even? Why an't Church be held during the rest of the week so that we can party and vacation during the weekend?

Also --

Matthew 12:12

How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

We can do well - but I think completley disregarding the holiness of the Sabbath day is a bit extreme.

**By the way, I'm not picking on anyone sorry if it seems so.**:(

This scripture really makes it hit home for me - The Sabbath day was made for us and meant for us.

Mark 2:27

27. And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath.

As well as

Deutronomy 5:12
12. Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee.

Luke 23:56

56. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath
day according to the commandment.

Done here.
Saturday is the Sabbath; Sunday is the Lord's Day. I don't consider either, or any day, any more holy than any other day.

On which days are you a Christian? On which days do you pray, read your scriptures, visit the sick, and give alms?

All - but I think what she is trying to get across is that we've been directed to keep the Sabbath day Holy in particular -- and most Christians equate Sabbath day to Sunday (from what I understand).

If we don't especially keep one day out of the week holy for the Lord, then it's just another day of the week.

All the Lord is asking for is ONE day out of seven -- just one. The other days are fine to give to Him - but all He requires is one day to be holy.

From the FAIR website (see here):
Most modern Christians, including Latter-day Saints, now follow a practice whereby Sunday, the first day of the week, is observed as the Lord's Day. Technically speaking, this day isn't the Sabbath, which is the seventh day; this is a distinction we rarely make today, but shouldn't forget.

I can understand if that's your tradition. In the tradition I'm working to integrate into my life, though, there are no holy days, and no days off.
