Does God Speak To Us?

I believe GOD speaks to us all throughout our life. I just feel some people have difficulty "listening" or are to intimidated or humble to respond. I believe GOD speaks through our senses and brings anything and everything to our attention until we (GOD and the individual) make the connection.

Communicate yes--in as far as everyone you share your world with communicates to you at some point. Speak as in articulation. ........for me no I would like to know what its voice sounds like if others got ear that hear words.......

I think that G-d does speak to us everyday if we seek Him.
Then again some would call that a mild delusion;)
Good post.
Different ways of speaking.
To those who never seek Him, might think it a rumble of thunder or a ghost. Did your stomach growl?
There are FEW times He will speak to those who do not want to hear. When He does! You will know it is Y H V H !

The bible helps me to see that God speaks to us through is word the bible. Everything we need to knoe to live a happy and productive life is in the bible.2 Tim 3:16 I think that if we are waiting for a voice to come out of heven, an angel to come visit or signs in our dreams we are waisting our time.

There are not many new things that can happen in life. The bible does outline pretty well the workings of God in our life. This can help us to see how God is moving through our hearts and lives.

It is quite apparent you don't know the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob, I beg to differ with your waste of time.;)

I think God speaks to us every day, though not always in the same way.
He speaks to us in a sunrise, or a flower, or the snow. He speaks to us when someone simles at us in the hall. He speaks to us in people that we meet. Also, he calls us. He calls us to listen to what he wants us to do. God is a pretty cool guy. Just listen!

I believe it to BE the other way around. How can you develop a REALationship with an entity through a book? Do you conduct or encourage your other relationships like this?

I have a relationship with God. He speaks to me through the Bible. Why? Because the Bible is His inspired words. Human hands wrote it down, after God inspired them to write them. So, you need other things than just the bible to have a relationship with God, like prayer, but the Bible is part of it.

Why would an All-Powerful BEing speak to us through a book? Why do we as humans have a more advanced communication system to understand each other than a Supreme-BEing who is supposed to BE the most important entity in our lives but yet cannot BE reached directly for comment?

What about all the other books that have been written or have yet to BE written that claim to BE inspired by GOD? Are they valid as well? What if these other books do not represent the same entity as the ones in other books or THE BIBLE? How do we K(NOW) if we are speaking to or about the same entity?

Well, it is my opinion that we humans accidentally labelled the universe (in particular its creative and destructive forces and all aspects of human experience occuring within the universe) "God"... so does this universe/experience/"God" speak to us? It exists, and because it exists and we can sense it, we derive meaning from it... but since it is not conscious or purposeful, it never has and never will intentionally convey a message to us.

The sun is completely unintelligent, but we see it and we know that it is day.

My sister's experience of going through childbirth is not intelligent... it is just an experience... but I can learn a lesson from it (i.e. don't have kids! jk)

Jonathan Edwards (you should know who he is) once said, "It seems to me an unreasonable thing, to suppose that there should be a God that has so much concern for us, and yet that he should never speak, that there should be no word from Him."

Ralph Waldo Emerson said to the Divinity School at Harvard, "It is my duty to say to you that the need was never greater for new revelation than now. The doctrine of inspiration is lost. Miracles, prophecy, the holy life, exist as ancient history only. Men have come to speak of revelation as somewhat long ago given and done, as if God were dead. It is the office of a true teacher to show us that God is, not was; that He speaketh, not spake."

To say that God does not exist (or exists, but does not speak to us) is to arrogate to yourself omniscience and an understanding that transcends your own existence. A member of a closed system cannot judge or define said system. It is above and beyond that member.

Does God speak to us and if so how?

Sure! God speaks to His own often, in many different ways. It's silly that many atheists think God doesn't communicate with His children. Sometimes His communication is not so fun, for he disciplines everyone he loves. Been there, done that.

Well said! When God does speak to his children there usually is no question who is speaking and what the message is. Sometimes though it's a faint whisper and harder to tell what the message is. Maybe it's like a person who speaks very quietly often gets more serious attention to what he's saying?

One could make the same argument the other way though.
