Atheists with benefits

What are some benefits of believing there is no God?

(Some Christians could save 10% or more of their income by switching to atheism.)

Less wars in the name of God

Less indoctrination of others (never head of atheist indoctrination ;) )

No gods (no monotheistic) puts more emphasis on the person taking care of himself; he is in control of his blessings and consequences and he finds ways to grow from those consequences since this life is all he has.

The benefit is you know more about yourself with knowledge and self growth rather than looking for yourself in a mystery.

I'd say if people want to still believe in god, other god religions would probably bring the same results but the emphasis is living in god nor for him nor as a servant to him. Equal footing. Humbleness when a teacher can bow to his student. If he can't, why should he be your teacher.

Using Porn and masturbating daily without guilt. Eating to excess and feeling good about yourself. Being able to hate someone when they do something nasty to you and not try to be nice to them. Having loads of money... so much money and thinking about all the things you can waste it on to amuse yourself.

you know... fun! :D

Whether there is a benefit or detriment isn't as important to me as if it's true. Theism could have all the benefit and that wouldn't convince me it's right. And if benefit v detriment were the only thing I was going on, it'd just mean I was faking it to gain something. And I just can't live my life that way.

One can find greater peace with nature and the universe when there is no sentient, all-knowing, all-controlling entity to blame. It's easier to accept life on life's terms without wondering why things are.

I'm sure there are some... but personally, I would not know-- I don't believe there is no god.

I simply have no faith that there is.

Apart from things listed above? There is the happy fact that I won't suffer a let down, upon the realization that there is, in fact, no god. Oh sure-- I'm not 100% certain -- but it was something of a let down when I finally admitted I no longer believed in one.

Of course, another nice benefit is that there is no ready excuse for when I screw up-- I must shoulder all the blame, instead of blaming on either god or satan. It's nice, because then I must deal with it myself.

I also don't feel it needful to give false credit to god, when my team wins, or some other positive thing takes place. I can instead, blame an uncaring universe? Or my team, whichever seems appropriate.

I always wondered how god had time to cure infants of what was killing them, what with having to fix sports competitions all over the globe...

... could be why no babies ever get cured by god... yes?

What matters to me is what is true. Benefits or no benefits, I try to figure out truths.

As Bertrand Russell said in an interview "There can't be a practical reason for believing what isn't true." In general I agree, although there may be some cases when self-delusion is not a bad thing. For instance, people who are suffering and/or in dire circumstances may get a psychological benefit from believing that things will turn out OK, even if they are unlikely to.

There's deities who are fine with that sort of behavior. You probably won't live very long, though.
