I'm very impressed in how many counties and libraries I can use my new library card at. Back in Miami county, Indiana, you have to cough up a crap ton of money for a library card that you only get to use in one library. I knew Cali was way more LGBT friendly, but I didn't know it was also way more reader friendly.

I checked out a book that is a collection of Lovecraft's stories (it's got a pretty decent selection), part one of the Chobits manga (I realized I truly am only adult in age only when I picked that one up), and part one of the Game of Thrones "graphic novel." I was going to get a book of Poe's poems, but it was more pictures than any thing and not the best they could have put in that collection. I also put a hold on a book about the gods of Lovecraftian lore.

I was outside smoking a bowl, and I realized two things (a few more but that would be random and gods forbid I say something random here); Christians here talk so very Christianly even here - the aforementioned p-tizer from earlier was part of a group, and of the guys in the group walked by. I don't know what the guy in the car said to him, but the Christian p-tizer responded in English and in a way that would make Jesus so very proud.
I also realized I have a deeply conditioned response of "Oh ****! Play it cool." when I have pot on my possession and see a cop car with lights and sirens on and heading my way.
Another realization, just to be random anyways, is that it doesn't seem like there are as many Hispanic people to me any more. Still tons more in this county than probably the entire state of Indiana combined, but I haven't even thought of it for awhile until shopping today and I began to notice that these anxiety-inducing herds of new people are starting to look more familiar - it was specifically a dad playing and singing with his kids that made me realize that.
I don't see my tradition of being an exclusive night-shopper during the holiday season changing though. This unfortunately restricts me to Walmart, but I'm more running a marathon to get out than shopping when I go any other time in those times of great herds of people.

All my research for where to live for now has lead me to Fresno, where I can get a cheap apartment and also work towards an M.S.W. And they have theaters and museums and stuff to do.
And once I'm out of my host's house, I think I'm going to buy a closet worth of clothes and probably never step out of the house as male again.

Or not. The apartments I was looking at in Fresno have very bad reputations very roaches. And one of them is across the street from a stadium. The crime seems high, but isn't much higher than it was where I come from.
This is starting to stress me out.

I did manage to find some cheap apartments in Bakersfield that don't have tons of people complaining of ******* landlords, roaches, malfunctioning gates, and lots of theft.

Be warned, Fresno is hot. (as in weather)
