How would we explain our notion of "God" to an alien?

How could we explain our notion of a "God" to an alien? That many people on Earth believe in a big guy in the sky. That we kill and discriminate on the bases of this believe. And we act kindly and compassionately only because we will be sent to hell of we don't !
Would an alien have a belief system? How quickly would we be trying to kill them based on religious fear!

Given the very wide range of meanings associated with the word "God" and how various people and cultures relate to God, good luck.

According to Raelians, according to my knowledge, we were confused that the aliens were gods. They had to do some things back in the day that we look badly on now too but they have largely guided us for good.

The word "Elohim" in the Bible far predates the Bible, so it was an unknown word. Some people just assumed it was God and so the word God in our Bible is from the word "Elohim." However I would suggest that if you type "Those who came from the sky" in google translate to Hebrew, you get three words that start with "Eloh-" and end in "-I'm." It might be an abbreviation. The point is the word "God" in the Bible is unknown.

As per the aliens, they are way advanced and believe in no God, simply they worship human (for they are human) genius.

That's a re-introduction to my aliens and the Bible thread.

Contradiction, irrationality and disorder
Raelism is really interesting, one of several things I've been exploring a lot in the last few prior months.

Outside of that, I think (blindly assuming that there would be a way of even communicating with them) that they would have their own religions and G-ds, so it would be more of a 'show and tell' then anything else (again, blindly assuming the age-old racial fear that aliens would be here to destroy or take over earth :p )

I've already got both of those books (plus "Yes to human cloning") :)
As long as you research you will not disbelieve. You can be happy too. There's a joke that says, "Did you hear about the Raelian marriage? The wedding wasn't much but the reception was excellent."

Interesting question. I've thought hard about it, and the answer I came up with was that if the alien was smart enough to travel interstellar and arrive on earth, then their knowledge of God would far supersede our own. It's a bit like an advanced civilization coming across a long-lost society who try to explain the nature of their totem-animal deities to them....
