Upon her forehead was written a name, a mystery....

Babylon the Great comes up for repeated mention in the book of Revelation, as well as a description of her and of her downfall.

Some of her characteristics according to Revelation are:

- She “sits on many waters,” controlling peoples and making them drunk with her poisonous, lying doctrines.
- She is arrayed in purple and scarlet, and is adorned with gold and precious stone and pearls.
- the traveling merchants of the earth became rich due to the power of her shameless luxury.
- She is bloodguilty because of her treacherous warmongering.
- She is involved in political philandering.
- She has a kingdom over the kings of the earth.
- After her destruction, the kings of the earth and the traveling merchants are weeping and mourning over her.

Eventually militarized horns of the very beast she is jockeying will rip her apart and destroy her.
In one day her plagues will come, death and mourning and famine, and she will be completely burned with fire,. . .

Have you solved the mystery of who she is ?

Re 14:8; 16:19; chaps 17, 18; 19:1-3.
We see her again as a key figure in visions 11 and 12.

Babylon is a dead city. When the Euphrates shifted its course away from the city, everybody left.

Rev 17 [2] With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

The kings of the earth commit fornication with Babylon the Great, so this great city is not a political entity. The woman is a harlot that rides the beast. The beast is the political system of Satan.
REV 17 [4] And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
[5] And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Babylon is the harlot church. A doubleminded man is a harlot. James 4:4
Babylon supports the economy, but Babylon is not the world economy.
Rev 18 [10] Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
[11] And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:

Rev 17 [7] And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
[8] The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
[9] And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.
[10] And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
[11] And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.
[12] And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.
[13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

The beast is political that is run by Satan since the whole world lies in his power. We are to avoid the political system of Satan which is the beast, and we are to get out of Babylon.

Rev.18
[1] And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
[2] And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
[3] For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
[4] And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

False religion. Sits on many waters implies she's not one kingdom, but contains people from many kingdoms. Political philandering, blood guilty warmongering, a kingdom over the kings, again, meaning not 1 kingdom.

"Babylon the great" gets her name from the original city of ancient Babylon, the place where rebellion against God began after the flood of Noah's day. Nimrod was Noah's great grandson and it was he who started men on the road to false worship. There are certain doctrines that identify the religions that fall under the classification of "Babylon the great" (or "the greater Babylon"). These central belief are to be found as a common thread running through most of the world's main religions, regardless of geographical location. The four main beliefs are....multiplicities or triads of gods.....belief in an immortal part of man that departs the body at death....belief that the good are rewarded in a spiritual realm of some sort.....the wicked are punished, suffering forever in painful circumstances, usually involving fire......no matter what religion you point to, they all seem to have these beliefs, or their own version of them, in common. Another thing that unites these religions is that they all seem to have a "flood" story in their history or mythology.

Nimrod, lived in the latter part of the third millennium B.C.E., and he founded original Babylon as the capital of man’s first political empire. Construction of this city, however, suddenly came to a halt when confusion in communication occurred. These men had defiantly disobeyed God's directive to spread abroad in the earth. They decided to build great cities and make a celebrated name for themselves....and they commenced to build a huge tower "with its top in the heavens" perhaps to survive another flood should God ever bring another one. But God stepped in and forced them to split up and move to different parts of the earth by confusing their language. (Genesis 11:9) That is how all the religions of the world came to adhere to one central core of teachings, although they may differ in other aspects.

The city of Babylon continued to exist even beyond the days of the apostles, but it was no longer a city of world importance, and it eventually fell into decay and utter ruin. There have been attempts to rebuild it, but none have ever succeeded. So, Babylon the Great must be a symbolic city, one of which the literal city of Babylon was the prototype. Because the ancient city gives "Babylon the great" its name, it is interesting to see how these two "cities" compare.

Apparently, according to historians, the swastika and the cross, common on stamps and plaques found in the region, were religious or magical symbols in the earliest prehistoric period. It is hard for people to understand how these symbols, so recognizable today, could date back so far.

Ancient Babylon’s religious influence spread out to many peoples and nations, when the tower builders took their religious beliefs with them to the remotest parts of the earth.....much farther and with greater potency and endurance than did her political strength.

The symbolic woman bearing the name "Babylon the Great" in Revelation, is “the great city that has a kingdom over the kings of the earth,” a kingdom that allows her, in effect, to sit on, or dominate “peoples and crowds and nations and tongues.” (Revelation 17:1, 15, 18) A kingdom over other kingdoms and nations is what is defined as an “empire.” Babylon the Great places herself above earthly kings, exercising power and influence over them.

Look at this world's history and see how much false religion has influenced world rulers down through time. They are still meddling in politics even today. Soon, according to the Revelation, the very kings that she has influenced will turn on her and strip her naked and burn her with fire. She will not know what hit her! She is of the opinion that she has the right to rule to world through her spiritually immoral relationships.

God's command is clear....Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues. 5 For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind." (Revelation 18:4-5) Anyone not heeding God's command will join her in her punishments. Just as happened with original Babylon....she will be destroyed and will never be rebuilt.

This is a sobering thing to contemplate....we all need to ask ourselves...am I in Babylon the great?

A WOMAN, an infamous prostitute,
who has influenced the lives of
billions of people, is killed, executed.
But this is no ordinary execution.
What makes it different? The executioner
is an animal, a wild beast that strips her
naked, devours her flesh, and then leaves
her remains to be destroyed by fire. Who
is this influential woman? Why does a wild
beast attack her? What has she done to
deserve this violent end?*—Revelation 17:
16, 17.
This could be the basis for an intriguing
mystery story—except that it is not the plot
for a novel. It is a historical reality that is
in the course of being fulfilled. And it matters
to you because this infamous prostitute
may be influencing your life right now.
Furthermore, whether you stay with her or
break away will mean the difference between
life and death. So who is she?
This femme fatale, this shameless seductress,
is described by John in the prophetic
Bible book of Revelation, where we read:
“And [the angel] carried me away in the
power of the spirit into a wilderness. And
I caught sight of a woman sitting upon a
scarlet-colored wild beast that was full of
blasphemous names and that had seven
heads and ten horns. And the woman was
arrayed in purple and scarlet, and was
adorned with gold and precious stone and
pearls and had in her hand a golden cup
that was full of disgusting things and the
unclean things of her fornication. And
upon her forehead was written a name, a
mystery: ‘Babylon the Great, the mother
of the harlots and of the disgusting things
of the earth.’”—Revelation 17:35־.
Now this “Babylon the Great” must be a
formidable woman, for the account says in
verse 1 that she “sits on many waters.”
What does that mean? God’s angel explained
to John: “The waters that you saw,
where the harlot is sitting, mean peoples
and crowds and nations and tongues.”
(Revelation 17:15) Without a doubt this is
a prostitute with worldwide influence. But
she is no commonplace whore. She is “the
mother of the harlots,” the madam of the
institution. When it comes to fornication,
she gives the orders. But she also has
special clients.
The angel reveals who these favored
clients of the great harlot are. How does he
identify them? He says that Babylon the
Great is the one “with whom the kings of
the earth committed fornication, whereas
those who inhabit the earth were made
drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
(Revelation 17:2) This has to be an alluring
harlot with good connections to be able
to attract the political rulers of the world,
the very “kings of the earth”! So who is
she?
The angel says she has a name, a mystery
name, “Babylon the Great.” Now here
are two clues as to her identity—one is the
clients she favors and the other is her
name, Babylon the Great.
According to John’s vision that is here
under discussion, the rulers, “the kings of
the earth,” have willingly gone to her bed
of fornication. (Revelation 18:3) (Historical
evidence of this will be presented in the
following pages.) Thus, Babylon the Great
cannot symbolize the political rulership
factor in the world system.
What about the big business sector that
plays such a vital role in man’s affairs
today? It certainly is a powerful influence
in many nations and, in effect, decides who
will be rich and who will be poor. Could this
be Babylon the Great?
and the traveling merchants of the earth
became rich due to the power of her shameless
luxury ” Yes, the merchants of the world have
benefited by trading and consorting with her and
increasing her “shameless luxury.” Thus, she
cannot symbolize big business on a world scale.
Therefore, by a process
of elimination, political
rulership and big business
control and influence are out of the
running. What does that leave us with? It
has to be that sector of power that also
matches the indictment, “for by your spiritistic
practice all the nations were misled.”
It is the once powerful but now waning
element that has deeply influenced the
thinking and the actions of the nations
ever since the days of ancient Babylon. She
is the one who has had “a kingdom over the
kings of the earth”—namely, false religion!—

Babylon the Great is the mother of harlots (Revelation 17:5). The Roman church and her Protestant daughter churches are numbered among the daughters of Babylon. Even the Jews were numbered among the daughters of Babylon, for they went after the gods of Babel. In fact, the "harlot" of Revelation 17:16, who is burned, is hated, made desolate and naked, refers to the Jews. The "10 horns" of the 8th beast (Revelation 17:16) are the nations which made the Jews "desolate", and those nations would include such nations as Hitler's Germany in WWII, and the Spanish ruler who killed and confiscated the property of the Jews relative to causing them to flee Spain in 1492. It would include all the nations which collaborated with the Roman Church Inquisition, such as the Spanish Inquisition or the pogroms of Europe. As for Babylon the Great, it will be a "strong angel" who will throw her down (Revelation 18:21). As for those who are told to "escape" from the daughter of Babylon, that would be Zion (Zechariah 2:7), those that "hold fast My covenant", and "who keeps from profaning the Sabbath" (Isaiah 56:6).

Babylon cannot be big business, and it is not political regimes. So by process of elimination it has to be a world religion.

But yet you probably didn't know that.

In fact, the "harlot" of Revelation 17:16, who is burned, is hated, made desolate and naked, refers to the Jews.

Babylon the great is a world empire, constructed by the devil to siphon off worship for himself. He doesn't care what god you worship, as long as its not YHWH. They are all his creation.

Christendom is the most reprehensible part of Babylon the great because she alone claims to uphold the teachings of the Christ, but her doctrines are straight out of Babylon.

Those who are part of Christendom, I believe will be on the receiving end of Jesus' rebuke at the judgment. (Matthew 7:21-23) He says he had never known those who claim him as their Lord but who do not do the will of the Father.

All who render worthless worship, regardless of the label, will not fare well. Jesus said he knows those who belong to him....it doesn't depend on a denomination like a label, but what you hold as truth, how you render that worship, and with whom. There is only one right way to worship God.

All of the relevant world powers are mentioned in the book of Daniel.
The current world powers are the last in Biblical history. But the Revelation mentions one last "king"....an 8th that springs from the seven. We see this as the "one world government" that has been talked about for decades under the auspices of the UN. It's rule will last "one hour" (not a literal hour, but a short time) before everything collapses and God steps in with his final war on the devil's failed world system of corrupt human rulership.

Daniel 2:44 says......“In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed. And this kingdom will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it alone will stand forever."

God's kingdom will eliminate all corrupt human governments and replace them as mankind's only government.....permanent and incorruptible. Everyone living right now has the opportunity to take sides with God's kingdom or to support human kingdoms....you can't do both.

As for those who are told to "escape" from the daughter of Babylon, that would be Zion (Zechariah 2:7), those that "hold fast My covenant", and "who keeps from profaning the Sabbath" (Isaiah 56:6).

Humankind have been under the influence of false religion ever since Nimrod began his rebellious course after the flood of Noah's day. Jesus said that Israel would be abandoned because of her unfaithful course and because of her treatment of the prophets that God sent to correct her.

"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the killer of the prophets and stoner of those sent to her—how often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings! But you did not want it. 38 Look! Your house is abandoned to you. 39 For I say to you, you will by no means see me from now until you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in Jehovah’s name!’” (Matthew 23:37-39) They silenced Jesus just as they had done with God's other prophets.
Have the Jews as a nation ever acknowledged Jesus as the one who came in Jehovah's name? Individuals have, but not the religious Jews who still find excuses to pronounce him as a phony.

Jesus was God's last prophet, but he was not sent to the incorrigible Pharisees, rather, he was sent to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel". Gathering those humble Jews who did accept him as Messiah, he taught them how to worship their God acceptably, not the way the Pharisees taught it by distorted oral tradition and hypocritical example.

When the Pharisees complained about a Sabbath violation by Jesus and his apostles, walking through a grain field and grabbing some wheat on the way through, Jesus said..."‘The sabbath came into existence for the sake of man, and not man for the sake of the sabbath; hence the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.’” (Mark 2:267-28)

How is Jesus "Lord of the sabbath" in your understanding?

I am afraid I can only effectively address one of your misapprehensions at a time:

Babylon the great is the mother of harlots and of abominations (Revelation 17:5). She "sits on a scarlet beast"...."having 7 heads (Revelation 17:3). The "beast carries her" (Revelation 17:7). Babylon isn't the beast, she sits on the beast (world power). The beast gets his power from the "dragon" (Revelation 13:4). Babylon the great relies on the beast for its' power. The "dragon" is head of the gods, and he gets worshipped by having the beast worshipped (Revelation 13:4), because the power of the beast comes from the "dragon" (Revelation 13:4).

Your problem is that your religion comes straight out of Christendom. The leaders of the Holy Roman Empire were crowned by the "dragon's" pope, who simply represents the "dragon" giving authority to the beast. The holy Roman church was instituted by the "beast with two horns like a lamb", Constantine, and its purpose is to deceive those "who dwell on the earth" (Revelation 13:14). The pope/Pontiff got his authority as keeper of the gods and calendar from Constantine, who got it from Julius Caesar, who took it from the pagan church Pontiffs.
