Esoteric Occultism

JamesYaqub

Nobody Special
Is nothing whatever to do with anything Satanic or bad. Just like in the sticky herein it refers to things which are hidden.

Are there any occultists here on this forum? Judge by the dates of last entries on the right there are few.

Does an occultist believe in God? Sure why not?
Does an occultist speak of the Christ? Yes... Indeed the Christ, through the man Jesus, was fully engaged with "things that lay beneath".

Who practices "occulted esotericism? It will be she/he who has learned to look beyond the surface. In religious scripture there is a great need for this.

I am the sort of occultist/esotericist who values religious practices for what they reveal about humanity. Consider Christianity? In both the new and old testaments there are layers of truth. Parables are used to great effect in the new. The old uses another method to teach. In the old we find truths cloaked in mysticism. On the surface they require a high degree of faith but when one looks further inside the superficial aspects are discarded. What is left for us to see? Well that depends upon our spiritual age.

Few of us have any interest in these things. The believer concentrates on scripture as it is. The occultist allways looks inside, underneath, behind and above.

Is scripture the word of God? Yes. Are they literal? No. Now, in humanity, we see two camps, two bodies of believers, already separated. Is this God's fault? No. The reason for it is simple. No two humans are the same.

That's enough for now. I know. I know. I tend to ramble when I speak.

Peace to us all...

I'm an occultist, but don't by any means qualify as an esoteric. The two words are closely related, but the esoteric is used in context of being part of an inside circle, often requiring some form of initiation one has to become part of (I was paying attention in religious studies class today). I represent the type of occultist that studies a lot and practices little. As a side note, I don't believe in any gods and that includes Christ. I want to make this straight for everyone and anyone reading this: the occult as such doesn't include any predetermined values or belief systems. It simply refers to the study or practice of the hidden, i.e. occult, generally referring to spiritual truths. It's therefore extremely misleading to connect any belief system to it, especially since many occultists are very individualistic and prefer to find their way through means of mysticism and/or practices that actually stay secret.

Anyway, I apologize for the rant. Welcome.

I tend to use the word "occultist" in a narrower sense to refer to magical practitioners that lack a religious bent to what they do. It would include the ceremonial magician, the chaos magician, the pop culture magician, non-religious witchcraft, in some cases rootworkers and New Agers, etc. In this narrower sense, I do not consider myself an occultist. Do I work with practices and ideas that are considered occult? Certainly. But I don't identify as an occultist.

The term "Satanic" does not automatically mean "bad" or "evil" in the traditional sense. That which is hidden dwells within the realms of Darkness which is the province of the Infernal One whose Names are many. You can asign whatever meaning you want to the Esoteric, even invoking the name of christ, but in the eventual understanding the Mysteries will always return to their original source; the Black Flame of the Powers of Darkness. :bat:

Esoteric Occultism-

A kind of deeper, symbolic and more whimsical journey/look into the self revelations of your own psyche as it relates and connects to/with the world around it in unknown capacity, uncommon ways and mysterious (riddled) terms.

- As defined by my own personal experience/s of the above-

I am a theosophist and an occultist in the theosophical sense.

"HPB defined true occultism as "altruism", the Great Renunciation of self, which is embedded in the principle that Divinity is concealed--transcendent yet immanent--within every living being."
