Religious entertainment?

Here is y favorite Stryper song, Stryper was a famous clean Christian hard rock hair band from the 80's and 90's.

Stryper, one of the guys in the band had married a woman who was a stripper in Las Vegas got out of it and became a Christian. They had a ministry out for awhile for strippers getting out of the life style. I thought it was cool in a sense that they were helping strippers get out of the life.

I don't believe the conservative Christian church is the answer necessarily like they do though.but at least they were helping women get out of the life style which was good.

They use to show it on the ID station true crime I think but they cut it off in the first season I think.

I've always enjoyed electronic music as there are little or no lyrics at all.

Tangerine Dream
Mike Oldfield
Jean Michel-Jarre
Tomita
Vangelis
Anthony Phillips
Synergy
You're going to like my stuff when I start publishing it. :) I take a lot of that style and do my own thing with it.

do Christians still stand against secular music and secular entertainment.
I was in an SBC member church last Sunday. The preacher said that TV and music were spiritual warfare against Christians and that Satan and his demons were involved. It was very Frank Perretti. If you read This Present Darkness which is a work of fiction you can get an idea of the kind of shadowy, war torn world they envision as 'Spiritual'. To them we are surrounded by invisible armies of angels and fallen angels, literally, physically battling except they are invisible. I call it superstition and the opposite of spiritual. I dont consider it christian or biblical, but it is popular. If the SBC is accomodating then that means many of the newer style churches are, too.
What would be the reasons to restrict yourself to Christian entertainment?
Entertainment is not Christian generally, so its deceptive to create a special category that you call Christian. Its entertainment. Christian actions are charity, work, etc. The idea that entertainment could be christian is just a mutation of the idea that church can revolve around sermons or thst singing has magical qualities. Its all got to do with the fraudulent definition of spiritual.

You know that's interesting that you say that. That's why I brought up the thread about Rich Mullens. He refused to let the producers pay him a rich salary and gave most of it away to charity. But a lot of the entertainers don't see anything wrong with being super rich.

Although MC Hammers music in the 80's and early 90's did not have Christian lyrics , except one of his songs about prayer, his music was clean, and he related with the Christian label to an extent, he was Christian and his music was clean.

But there is a Scandal video of his life up on Demand on cable called famous and broke. He never got into drugs sex or drinking really, and I think he is very lucky he did not . But he was a spendaholic,He had made like 50 million bucks can't remember how much but he spent all of it I can't believe it.

The super rich lifestyle of an entertainer made him go crazy with spending. He got out of it and today MC Hammer is a pastor and hes made a few Christians songs I think. One of which I like Do Not Pass Me By.

But its just to say does it not it hard on Christians to be Christian in a rich entertainer lifestyle?

I do not consider entertainment part of Christianity more than eating a meal and probably less. If I listen to the Beetles or to a Christian band the only difference is what I do with it. As Jesus is quoted to say (paraphrased) "It is not what you eat that makes you unkosher but what comes out of you, and its because evil thoughts about murder and other incorrect impulses come from within your own heart." Watch little boys play some time. You dont have to teach them to love weapons, because its natural. We just think evil thoughts, and watching The Waltons instead of CSI cannot cure it. Instead you choose what to think about. It does help to have good things to think about, but the flesh is the flesh. If you are being entertained you are not doing anything particularly christian. Listening to Amy Grant or Rich Mullins will not benefit you more spiritually than listening to honkey tonk.

So back in the 80's and 90's I listened to a lot of rock in roll, My sister was going to Church On The Rock in Rockwall Tx. When I was a teenager and threw away my Highway To Hell album by AC DC, made me mad lol. Shes funny too, she lightened up a little bit but not much but if I bring up the AC DC thing she will say and I still hate AC DC! LOL.

But anyways the reason I brought this up, was with all the Satan scare from the 80's and 90's do Christians still stand against secular music and secular entertainment. What would be the reasons to restrict yourself to Christian entertainment?

I as a recovering addict do think its healthy to listen to spiritual music, though I don't like Christians do I listen to Christian music now and then and also listen to Hindu music, namely the George Harrison album.

I think its healthy for addicts to tune into spiritual stuff. I like to listen to Unity FM which is a radio station by the Unity church.

But I think some Christians including my sister take it too far still. But no a days, she does let her teen age girls listen to boy and music that is innocent.
When me and my sisters were kids, it was before my time, but they listened to The Osmonds, The Jackson 5,and The Carpenters so.
So she has lightened up a bit.

I do listen to secular music and it changes all the time. I had a hard and fast obsession on The Doors for awhile after I quit the church and then a hard and fast obsession on new Kids On The Block. Christians at my Moms AA meeting use to tell me I should quit listening to all of it, I would wear t shirts with rock bands on it including a Rolling Stones t shirt, and they told me I was addicted to music along with Beliefnet folks.

I was not but I believe it was a part of my sexual and love addiction. SO today when I listen to secular music, I will listen to The Doors or New Kids and a bunch others, but I don't have any favorites, I don't get caught up in a favorite band over any other, just listen to a mic of different stuff.

I try to stay away from adult lyrics but here of late I have had issues with that, but sexually explicit lyrics are off limits to me.

But I don't believe it will send you to hell like some Christians do. So as a Chrisitian what kind of a stand do you take about music and entertainment and movies?
I personally don't listen to secular music, not because I think all are bad, but because it's hard to detect what is bad. So I think I am safe, by avoiding all. I don't feel like I am missing anything, because I feel I am enjoying the best music produced by anyone, and it's refreshing to me.

Let me explain.
I used to enjoy listening to all kinds of music - including the ones that had obscene and degrading lyrics - before becoming a dedicated baptized Christian.
However, as I learned what the Bible said about things God hates, I started cleaning out my music collection - getting rid of the ones containing vulgarity.

I thought, the ones remaining were okay, but as time went by, I found I needed to do more cleaning. For example, there were songs that actually encouraged immorality - even though they did not contain profanity. (I did not even know Toni Braxton had a song about masturbation - "You're Makin' Me High" - and I really had loved her voice.)
Prince has one. Lady Gaga has one. Cyndi Lauper has one. There are so many.

The thing is, when we listen to and enjoy these song, we hardly know what the artist is singing about. Only they can tell us.

This is what I mean by it being hard to detect what songs are bad. Further research into secular music led me to realize that much of it is produced by Satanists, and worst yet they were using techniques that involved esoteric practices - backmasking, and magic arts (spiritism).

Not many people know that most of their favorite artists are actually occultist.
Accusations
Artists who have been accused of backmasking include Led Zeppelin,[80] The Beatles,[80] Pink Floyd,[80] Electric Light Orchestra,[80]Queen, Beyonce,[80] Styx,[80] Judas Priest,[80] The Eagles,[80] The Rolling Stones,[80] Jefferson Starship,[80] AC/DC,[28] Black Oak Arkansas,[28] Rush,[81] Britney Spears,[82] and Eminem.[23]

Hard rock was the leading king in this, but basic rock and pop was not free of it. Even soul music, I found had artists who were involved.
It was then that my entire music collection went in the garbage.
...and boy am I glad, I am free of that rubbish.
The same story applies to movies.

I enjoy very much, the movies and music being produced by those working hard to promote godly devotion.

When I hear secular music of this century, and see the movies being advertised, it is a clear reminder of two scriptures - 1 John 2:15-17; 1 John 5:19

Correct.

I personally think that what some Christians fail to take into consideration, when it comes to music, is that the songs are being sung by people - people who have lifestyles, beliefs, and experiences.
Often, their lifestyle may be due to rebellion from past experiences.
Cyndi appeared on the Howard Stern Show in 1993 to promote the album. Cyndi claims that she was molested as a child, and raped as a young adult. She also claimed to have recorded 'She Bop' in the nude.

Some of those experiences caused them to feel that they have reason to lash out at God, and some even worship the Devil, or are inspired by demons to write songs... and we don't have a clue - but we listen to, enjoy, and sing those songs.
Not me.
