What would drive you to violence?

It’s a rather straightforward question, but I believe that the answers could be multi-factorial, as well as nuanced greatly by the situation you were in.
Let us consider, for the sake of argument, that you have a feeling at least that you would win in whatever violent endeavor you started. You might be imprisoned later for what you do, but you would win the fight.

A follup question is....Have you ever been in a fight?
————————————
Generally I am a very peaceful person, who has never never gone out looking for a fight, and I try to talk down people in those few occasions I have actually witnessed anger forming between others, or between another and myself (I don’t hang out with such people or go to such establishments where fights break out).
The only fight I was ever in was in 6th grade. Apart from martial arts training/sparring, I’ve never even tried to injure anyone. Also, I am not a veteran who may have fought and/or killed for more abstract or solid reasons.

I think it would be easiest to start with the most obvious causes of drawing my wrath.
- If someone harmed or threatened my family, including my cat.
This one actually could be tricky. For example - if I got into a heated discussion with someone while far from home. Someone who actually knew me and where my family could be found, even if they were not currently present. And he threatened my children or wife, saying that he would come at them on some night in the future......then I might have to amputate some of his limbs or eyes to make sure that he could not follow up on his threat. I don’t think that such an individual could be reasoned with or even threatened at knife point into a more rational outlook. He would need to be removed as a threat to my family.

- If someone began (or was just about to) assault me.
- if someone was physically attacking a stranger (particularly a victim smaller/less combat worthy than themself).
- I would attempt to restrain someone from beating an animal, but I wouldn’t break their bones unless they became violent toward me.

So, except for threats toward my family, I would not initiate an assault without violence already being in play. I have had people yell things at me, and stared back at a large man who was angrily challenging me to my face, but violence was not necessary.

I'm not a passive person; I'm pretty militant and will become violent if someone becomes so towards me or if I (or someone I'm with) feel threatened in any way, or if someone is bullying me (Hi, school!)

Uh if violence is committed on me? A degree of bullying or frustration that would cause one's resolve to snap. I been in 3 fights total. 1st in 1st grade some bullies, 2nd in 11th grade a fight from some idiot calling my bro a fairy, 3rd post HS at ren fare by some crazed drunken idiot. 1st two I "won" 3rd guy attacked me outta nowhere, but my best bud bottled the guy and it was over.

It's way too long ago for some, but I thought about and renounced violence after Kent State.

I was in a fight or two in junior high, early adolescence. But not since.

Maybe it's the soldier in me somewhere but I could be driven to use violence in face of a tyrannical regime take over. There's still the Constitution. As long as it's still there, there still hope for a peaceful resolution.

I hope I'm already dead by then if something like that were ever to happen.

As someone who formerly associated with gangs I have no problem getting into fights. I must admit I had a temper (at times still do) and I have hurt a lot of so-called tough guys in my day. I've put a gun to a person's head before over money when I was younger. I'm not proud of my past but its something that exists. What would drive me to violence are several things: 1) If you put your hands on me. 2) If you spit or throw human fecal/urine matter on me 3) If you harm any of my family.

What would drive me to kill?

If you harm any of my family to the point where you caused life long injury to the point of death. Then you'd condemn yourself and I would prepare myself for prison.

The biggest factor that would drive me to violence, is the threat of harm to myself, or my family (pets included). But, I will also defend others. I am the type of person to move towards conflict, rather than away from it. Interestingly enough, I am actually quite passive, I don't actively seek conflict, I am just calm under pressure/duress.

When people call things after a brand name....

You're not wearing a pair of 'Converse', you're wearing sneakers/trainers.

You're not doing the Hoovering, you're vacuum cleaning.

It's like calling all cars Mercedes, or all cereals Kellogs.

You say that you’re not passive, and would take action if they were violent toward you.
So if you and a friend are stopped by some guy, and he gets into a heated yelling match with your friend....that would be enough to sucker-punch the guy? Or would you wait till he grabbed your friend’s arm?

I'd probably take a swipe but it would depend on what he were saying. I wouldn't last very long if he were a full grown bloke, but it's worth a go.
