This is the first resurrection (for all that are mentioned in Heb 11:40) when Jesus comes in the very near future.
Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no authority over these, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him a thousand years.

This is the second death.
Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and the unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, will have their part in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

The second resurrection is after 1000 years. Because of Gods mercy he will still give humans a chance to repent for 1000 years (only one day for God2Peter 3:8). Those who are alive in the near coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and will not be part of the first resurrection will not die and they will leave for 1000 years (human calendar) because death and Hades were cast out into the lake of fire.
Rev 20:14 And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire.

Unlucky ones who will not be part of the first resurrection will feel terrible pains because humans are no longer adaptable to that long period of life like in the days of Adam to Noah. They will be tormented for five months. Even if they commit suicide, they will not die.
Rev 9:5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
Rev 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

Just to confirms why death shall flee...
Rev 20:14 And death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death, even the lake of fire.

After 1000 years (only one day for God2Peter 3:8), the verse you mentioned will happenTHE JUDGMENT DAY. Because they were given a chance of 1000 years, those who will still repent had the chance to go to heaven and that is the SECOND RESURRECTION. They will be resurrected together with those dead who were not part of the first resurrection. People who have not known the Words of God but did behave and followed the law that are written in their heart (Roman 2:15).
Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And a place was not found for them.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, the small and the great, stand before God. And books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Why it mentions dead, small and great? Because in the eyes of God, humans who lives in self-pleasure has died while living and also there were Giants on Earth before.
1Ti 5:6 But she who lives in self-pleasure has died while living.

Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days. And also after that, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore to them, they were mighty men who existed of old, men of renown.

The books mentioned here are the books of the Prophets and Apostlesit is called THE BIBLE.

The other sheep mentioned "who are not in this fold" are the offspring of Israel who scattered all over the Globe because their Shepherd did not spiritually feed them. They were called the Jews. Jews spread northward, eastward and southward from Israel. However most of them wandered in Europe and married different nationalities. Their offspring scattered further in Africa, Asia and had even reach North and South America. They are called now by the Bible as Gentiles. I saw once the film Feedlers on the roof and I love watching that movie, they are examples of the wandering Jews.

Please read the whole chapter 34 of Ezekiel and you will understand the meaning of the parable of the lost sheep.
Eze 34:6 My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my sheep were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and there was none that did search or seek after them.

For me, I believe that I am one of the lost sheep. I am sure you are one because you love to read the words of God in the Bible. I am very sure in the U.S. and Canada there are so many lost sheep of Israel. The lost sheep will be included in the verse you mentioned in Rev 7:9-10 if youre lucky enough to find the Kingdom of God.
Joh 8:47 He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Rev 7:9 After these things I looked, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, out of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues, stood before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palms in their hands.

This is absolute true because the lost sheep of Israel were scattered in the face of the Earth.

However they are no longer called Israel but Christians.

You see 12 tribes multiplied by 12,000 = 144,000 from every tribes of Israel. The rest in Revelation 7:9 are those outside of Israel. They are called Gentiles. Who told you that these are Spiritual Israel?

I think this is not the right thread to discuss the 144,000. I have seen the thread regarding the 144,000 and we go there to discuss it according to the bible.

What about all the talk about the golden streets and pearly gates mentioned somewhere in the bible, that's not literal? isn't there a passage in the bible where it speaks of heaven coming down to earth? I think that some tend to over-spiritualize certain texts of the bible and some take certain texts of the bible too literally. I think the context of the entire chapter determines its meaning just as with all books! I thought heaven was a real place with beauty beyond that which we can imagine, I guess I was wrong!

Hook them with a sophisticated philosophical perspective add a belief system about the nature of reality and keep them in the fold with the promise of eternal happiness through enlightenment or heaven.

Its the medeival version of self help. Like todays self help courses nobody's ever able to make them work. Does it ever occur to anyone that perfection does not even exist.

Heaven is the reward for perfect behaviour. It is a state of mind that is obtained by removing all desires and being humble. Buddhists obtain it by following the 8 fold path.

WOW! interesting! atheism and religion, atheists believe their right and so do those who adhere to their faith. I really don't know what to believe here on RF. Atheists cannot absolutely prove that there [isn't] a God, unless you have all the knowledge in the universe. Our Lord Jesus Christ said the Kingdom of God is within the Pharisees
Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

John the Baptist calls them
Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

And our Lord Jesus Christ also called the Pharisees serpents and vipers
Mat 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

The generations of vipers are the deceivers and they are the disciples of satan or the devil. How come that the kingdom of God is also within those Pharisees?

It needs righteousness of God to answer this problem.

Of course you might be like a lot of Christians who either don't believe in Grace or who simply don't understand it. Then again, you just may not have the Spirit living in your heart. Either way, the heart was meant to be restored to a relationship with God, and not mistrusted for all eternity.
