Hello,

I'm a kind of syncretic religionist - as you'll see from my religion I blend elements of the Abrahamic religions with those from the Hindu religions - key elements for me include monotheism and a cycle of rebirth/reincarnation, plus recognition of some key figures from both the Abrahamic and the Hindu religions - and I see from browsing this forum for a little while that there are others like me here :). So I hope this place might be a natural home for me and look forward to having some interesting debates and discussions with all and sundry!

I've liked it here and loved the debates and discussions :) , I hope you will as well!

EDIT: Maybe the Baha'i can help you with that. They seem to believe in parts of Abrahamic religions and Hindu religions.

Welcome to the forum Poseidon! I too am religious in that I believe there is more than just this life, but I too no longer associate with any particular religious group. I guess you could say I have become anti-organized religion. I think there are beautiful truths within all religious traditions, but that it is dangerous to overly embrace any one of them - as this can lead to intolerance/pride/and eventually a separation from the spiritual side of life.

One of the issues I struggle with is the existence of evil - why some have such easy lives while others live through hell on earth - perhaps reincarnation is the answer to this, if we all experience all of it by the end, and learn from all of it by the end - living a multitude of different lives would eventually bring everyone together don't you think?

Anyways, welcome to the forums!

Thank you! Yes, I've looked at the Baha'i Faith, but they don't seem to look too kindly on the notion of a cycle of rebirth, which I just can't shake. Plus Angels and Demons ('good' and 'bad' deities) are very real for me, and as far as I can tell, they have more of a symbolic meaning in the Baha'i Faith than anything.

A long story. Personal experience, talking with Jews and Christians (I used to be a Christian). Finding other religions wanting (I have tried Zoroastrianism, as many here can attest, different flavours Paganism etc).

I'd like to hear it someday :). I too started out as a Christian and have tried many religions down the years before arriving at my own peculiar way of looking at things :).

After immersing myself in various divergent faith traditions, I have come to the conclusion that revealed religions and revealed spiritual paths are not trustworthy sources of truth. After all, they all contradict each other, and they all possess fatal internal contradictions. And they all contradict science, archaeology, psychology, and history where they intersect. I think of their teachings as stories residing in the spiritual realm. Perhaps you can glean useful nuggets from them.
