The Quran - The Holy Scripture of the Muslims

Hey everyone. I will periodically post parts of the Quran on this thread in English translation . Others are welcome to comment and post parts of the Quran as well. Any comments or questions however are more then welcome and I hope all Muslims on this forum take a part in answering any quieries. Thanks

Consider this an attempt at reaching out to the non-Muslim surfers all accross the world and inviting them to read and research the Quran as it is in translation so that they can see the message of our scripture for themselves and judge the spirit of Islam for themselves.

For my first post I have decided to post the first revelation, the first verses revealed to our Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). And after that also, the first chapter of the Quran which is called "The Opening" which has 7 verses which the Muslim is required to recite in every prayer.

So here it is, the first verses revealed in the cave named Hira. The prophet Muhammad was in meditation, and Gabriel appeared to him... He said "Read".... in shock and amazement, and probably a little embarrased since Muhammad was illiterate and could not read or write, he says "I cannot"... The Angel says "Read..." Muhammad again says "I cannot read, I am illiterate"... The Archangel then grabs hold of the prophet, and hugs him tightly and again says "Read...." and so begins the 96th chapter of the Quran, entitled "The Clot". The first five verses of this chapter make up the first ever revelation of the Quran to Muhammad. I will post the first 8 verses of this chapter.

Chapter 96 - "The Clot"

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

1: Read in the name of thy Lord who creates --
2: Creates man from a clot
3: Read and thy Lord is most Generous,
4: Who taught by the pen,
5: Taught man what he knew not.
6: Nay, man is surely inordinate,
7: Because he looks upon himself as self-sufficient.
8: Surely to thy Lord is the return...

Chapter 1 "The Opening"

In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

1: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds,
2: The Beneficent, the Merciful,
3: Master of the day of Requital.
4: Thee do we serve and Thee do we beseech for help.
5: Guide us on the right path,
6: The path of those upon whom Thou hast bestowed favours
7: Not those upon whom wrath is brought down, nor those who
go astray.

Ameen

And since this is a forum geared towards philosophy,
Ill keep a lookout for verses which I consider philisophic
to post here.

The Koran is not very beautiful English. Listening to it in Arabic, it just sounds so beautiful even though I don't understand it.

In Bosnian it's also very soft, very fluid, very romantic. :)

Tebe, Allaha, Gospodara svjetova, hvalimo,
Milostivog, Samilosnog,
Vladara Dana sudnjeg,
Tebi se klanjamo i od Tebe pomoć tražimo!
Uputi nas na Pravi put,
na Put onih kojima si milost Svoju darovao,
a ne onih koji su protiv sebe srdžbu izazvali, niti onih koji su zalutali!

This page has the English translation of the meanings of The Qur'an by Saheeh International (Al-Muntada Al-Islami) , which is one of the best English translations so far:

http://www.islambasics.com/view.php?bkID=120

And this is an audio recording of the recitation of the Qur'an verse by verse in Arabic, followed by the English meaning of each verse:

The English audio translation is read by a Canadian Muslim, Br. Ibrahim Walk, which is very nice.

I cannot understand Arabic...
And while its true that those who can say that
reading it in its original arabic form is a mystical experiance
in of itself....

But understanding the Quran does not require Arabic lessons...
And God is fully capable of communicating his message with
power and ease in any language if he so chooses.

That's true if you have a good translation of the meanings of The Qur'an, and if it's upto an intermediate level.

To understand and appreciate the depths of the meanings of The Qur'an at an advanced level, the knowledge of the original language of The Qur'an would be a help.

( the Big bang in the Quran)

21:30
"have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then we parted them, and we made every living thing of water ? will they not then believe"

scientists tell us that after the big bang, plasma formed and later cooled to gases ( helium and hydrogen) and evantually gases condensed to stars

41: 11-12

then turned he to the heaven when it was smoke, and said unto it and unto earth, come both of you, willingly or loth
they said: we come , obedient (11)
Then he ordained them seven heavens in two days and inspired in each heaven its mandate ( its affairs)
and we decked the nether ( lower) heaven with lamps (stars), and rendered it inviolable
That is the measuring of the Mighty , the knower ( 12) "
