That’s quite a story. I can’t believe the criminal was shot several times and he still took the gun from one of the ladies. Did the daughter have yet another weapon? Would stores normally be carrying multiple firearms? They even had quite the security system, pretty crazy.

I wonder how much training and practice the mother and daughter had. Maybe with a little more training they could have put him down with the first shot.

This is one of the reasons why I support more stringent training/testing requirements rather than an outright ban.

Well for one we do not know what caliber of each firearm was, we also do not know what type of ammunition they were using. Both points play a critical role in stopping someone. Also we do not know if the perpetrator was on any type of drug, which also can cause a person to not be as susceptible to injury as a "normal: person. Note: he kept coming back, this is not what your average run of the mill smash and grab robber will do; they normally flee. So there is not enough information to reach a viable conclusion.
Now we see both of you referencing training and practice. During high levels of stress (which this was) adrenaline is playing a major role in each of these women's body. We also know that even a police officer that is confronted with this type a situation have problems hitting the target. See Accuracy Under Stress Now these two women are not even close to receiving the same amount of training that a police officer goes through. Why do you think our SOCOM personnel train so hard? They train so that their actions become almost automatic and stress still plays a role. So both of your statements about training and practice does not hold water. However I do suggest that they go to the range more often. Practice..Practice....Practice. The wife and I go through about 400-500 rounds a month (except when it is below 40 degrees or horrible weather).
