Billy Graham has died.

I've never been able to match my instinctive morality to the idea of priests who grow very rich on the donations of the faithful. (You might reasonably reply, that's a matter for the faithful, while I'd be thinking, more fool them.)

Whereas the philanthropy of millionaires has never worried me.

How much of his fortune did Billy give away while he could?

I actually am just a little grievous toward his passing. He was very misunderstood by evangelicals and even by his own children. Billy never wanted his spiritual revolution to become mingled with the divisive politics of the right. He was a fierce opponent to Jerry Falwell and best friend to Martin Luther King Jr.

His children aside, who Billy even said in his biography do not represent him, and especially Franklin- Graham had his good points before his mental illness began to take over his life. I can't blame him for that.

I still remember what Billy said about his son Franklin. Do any of you remember? He said he has a son that judges everyone and everything, and that is not how he believes in doing things.

I hope the history books are at least accurate and fair to the man, that he did not agree with his kids and was an ecumenist.

He was just good at marketing himself. A rich homophobe who moved in the halls of power. Not very Christ-like. He didn't distance his organization or name from his nasty son, either. He may have been a good preacher but that just means he was a salesman, not a saint. Sad that we're equating peddling religion with service to the progress of the country.
